Rachel McGinnis, LCSW

Clinical Social Work/Therapist

About

First, I'm very proud of you for even considering therapy!  That's a great first step.  I hope you can find a therapist you feel comfortable with.  In the past I've been most helpful for people dealing with issues around trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, foster care, or adoption.  I really enjoy getting to work with LGBTQIA+ clients.  I do my best to focus on what your goals are and help you work towards those, not what anyone else thinks you "should" be working on right now.  If you don't know what your goals are, that's ok, too!  Figuring out what you want out of life in therapy can be one of the best uses of therapy.

One of my main principles is that therapy should **not** be traumatic, so I won't push you to deal with things you aren't ready for yet.   Since I try to focus on what you most need to talk about, we often bounce back and forth between problems happening right now and things that have happened in the past, and that works well.  I typically use some elements of CBT to help you learn to be kinder to yourself, some elements of Solution Focused Therapy to help you find your goals, some coping skills from DBT, some Behavioral Therapy strategies to create structure to help you move towards your goals, and some Attachment Theory framework for understanding relationships, depeding on what your need is.

It would be a privledge to speak with you and see if we click.  Good luck.  :-D
