...See more I feel hollow, numb and empty. I hide and cry a lot when I am alone or when my foster mom is sleeping. . I'm jealous and envious of the youth, people that seem to enjoy living and are "alive", people with families and friends, etc people in relationships regardless of how the dynamics are, people who have the presence of someone, etc... I am not aging well, I've never had a good life..nothing but a life full of hurt and trauma ..my internal deep wounds are surfacing more and taking a toll on my physical. I'm ugly, old, some missing teeth, wrinkles, scars and wounds all over my body, saggy thinner skin, missing thinner hair, scawl lines, mouth pulled almost permanently into a sad clown position, etc .. I have no life, no genuine loved ones, sickly, forever unemployed, etc ... I am in my 40's and have never looked nor aged youthful ..now it's over . I really hope that I can find enough distractions to numb me untill It is my time...

Aging Parents

...See more I'm wondering, for those who have been though this already, or going through this now:  Brief background: I am an only child. My parents are both in their mid-80s. They are divorced from each other, but each has a partner. They still live independently, but in declining health. They each want to age in place, in their own homes, for as long as they possibly can. I think they are both on seemingly very long waiting lists for continuing care facilities, but at the moment, we don't know where anyone really is on the wait list, we just know they've been on the wait list for several years for these places already.  Now the question: At what point do you decide it's time to "do" something for an aging parent?  My dad, for example, is fiercely independent, and equally as stubborn. He has fallen several times in the past year. Once I came to visit and he was sitting in his front yard but couldn't get up without my help. When I saw him several days ago, he was extremely shaky. I'm worried about him. He doesn't want help. His wife is more able-bodied but wouldn't be able to help him up if he fell and needed help. He refuses to let her call 911.  SO I ask myself, do I just try to respect him and his desire to just live his life in a weak and shaky and unstable state? He's got a doctor appt in a few days, and I'm hoping the doctor will give him some guidance because he's more likely to listen to the doctor, but that doesn't mean he'll actually do what the doctor says. Sigh.  What have you done, or not done, for your aging parents, and how did that work for you?  I know everyone has a different and unique experience, I'm just trying to feel not quite so alone here. Again, I'm the only child, of basically four aging adults (my parents and their respective partners) - and this is going to be a REALLY HARD experience in the near future. Thanks for your input/stories/experiences.

Pet Loss Grief/Guilt

...See more After 50 I have lost my beloved dog I had for almost 13 years and while I am learning to deal with not having this companion in my life, I can't shake the guilt. I feel selfish and like a horrible person for not having taken him for more checkups, not having knowing he had a tutor growing inside him and also as I was myself not always well, skipping taking him out sometimes so there would be a long time between times he went out from time to time. On the other hand other than that I took him out and took him where I could and gave him a ton of emotional love but the I had to put him down 6 weeks ago but the pain is still raw when I think of him. He was the love of my life and everything to me. :(. Has anyone dealt with this type of situation before where because you weren't completely fit emotionally yourself you couldn't always take the best care of him. I also feel like a bad person that was too cheap and should have done more blood tests etc. every year but I did do it one time and they said there was nothing although they had told me there was something before tests and then everyone told me they are just ripping you off and that was also part of why I didn't do more tests after that when I saw no symptoms except occasional licking of his side. I saw nothing to worry about and didn't take him in but feel guilty towards end he didn't eat for two days but was drinking I was about to take him in but he started eating frantically again for a day then he threw up and then I had to go get my car fixed by time I came and got him to doctor they said to go to emergency I feel guilty I didn't take him sooner. The guilt is killing me I feel like a selfish, cheap, self-centred person and I don't know how to make up for it now.

...See more I'm not sure why but I decided to come back to this forum and check it out again. I used to come here quite often but life situation has changed and just didn't feel the need to come here much. I still battle with occasional depression now and then. But I try to keep busy with life hoping it would keep my mind off things. Life certainly has its challenges that's for sure. Sometimes it's hard to navigate through some of them.
