Aging Up Questions
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I am creating this thread to better understand what the team of teen transitioning mentors can do to provide support during the aging up period. I will need your help to help us!
In this thread, you can drop any questions you have about aging up. For example, I am aging up in 2 months and I don’t know how different adult chats will be, or How can I get my Adult-Teen Listener badge as soon as I age up? We will utilize these questions to format peer support from those experienced to further contribute in an efficient way to make the transition smooth and anxiety-free.
You can also share how your transitioning into the adult side experience has been like. Your experience will show those about to age up what it is really like and any questions that they can derive from that, we are here to answer.
Additionally, if you have any recommendations on what you need from the team, please drop it in the thread as well.

This post is brought to you by the Teen Transitioning Program. Please read about it here.
@FrenchToastClub
I transitioned into an over 18's listener after my 18th birthday and it all felt a bit sudden at first but I dealt with the transition smoothly. You just need to have the confidence to talk to adults like you had the confidence to talk to teens. It is hard at first but once you get used to it, you'll smash it! ❤️
I agree! Thanks for sharing your insight. :)
@KindHeart1010 I can only imagine! The changes can be intimidating but I am glad you were able to have that confidence. I hope you are enjoying the adult side now and thank you for sharing ❤️
@KindHeart1010 sorry it was so sudden. I am here if you care to talk about what resources are available on the 18+ side or questions you may have. www.7cups.com/@soulsings
@FrenchToastClub
adult side of 7 cups is cheeky, could be funny...there's adults on spectrum (same like teens on spectrum because people get old)
Lots of hit and miss on deciphering messages. It's like an drop call during conversation and trying to piece message altogether. Don't be to scare to speaking to someone who is old enough to be santa clause...there's an mute option for that :D
@Rainy2022
the santa claus part made me laugh xD that is sooo true lol
@FrenchToastClub Thank you for creating this thread! Aging up for me was a very emotional experience as a few days before it even was my birthday (which was the exact date I had provided when setting up my 7 Cups profile), I was removed from all of my teen chats and did not get the chance to say goodbye to members I had been supporting for months. I hope in the future 7 Cups will set up a way to notify members as well of their listeners aging up so they can be prepared and not think we've abandoned them.
@Brittanny17
You could try to send an email to community@7cups.com suggesting this change. And also message ASilentObserver or Glen wwith your idea. It is smart
@Brittanny17 Thank you for the suggestion, Brittanny! I am sorry it was so sudden. May I ask if you saw a pop-up a month before aging up?
@Brittanny17 I definitely agree with that!
@FrenchToastClub
I didn't have a complete super hard time when I aged up, although I did actually cry on my birthday when I logged into cups to see I was yeeted onto the oldies side, it was quite sudden and yeah, I didn't get to properly say bye to my friends at the time. But yeah, not knowing anyone it did make me have a panic attack as soon as I checked out the group chats, but I do want to thank @CommunityModAaron for introducing me to some kind people who has helped me settle in a lot. without any of them, I wouldn't have aged up so easily, but from time to time, I still want to be thrown back to the teenies side. But yeah, it wasn't too bad of an experience.
@EmoRex
Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry you cried and didn't say goodbye. As the response above suggested maybe 7 cups should send an alert a few days before
@Ginevra962
i agree 💖 there should be an alert at least 48 hours before one ages up
I really disliked my aging up experience. It was very sudden, with no explanation or support given to me. Although I’ve coped with the transition fine, I know other listeners might not be able to and we might lose some because of this. I also feel a lot of guilt that I didn’t get to provide any closure to my teen members who I had been providing long term support to- I think about them a lot. I’d like to go back to listening to teens as I find there are a lot more sexually inappropriate and prank chat requests on the adult side, but again I don’t know anything about doing this. I suppose my main recommendation would be that the information about the process and the support available for listeners who are aging up needs to be promoted more, because so many of us simply didn’t know it existed.
@YellowButton223 I hear you and agree that some teens are blindsided by the aging up process. I think some people tell me there is a popup to warn people.
What do you think about popup warnings on 3 times 90 60 and 30 days wiith maybe one more a week before?
Another issue that I heard people complain about is members are aged up at the first of the month of their 18th birthday and listeners on their birthday. In the popup messages this could be clarified.
@soulsings thanks
@YellowButton223 Yes I 100% agree with you on that.
For context, I dont feel comfortable sharing my real identity on this site because I have been impersonated and targeted on other social media before. Because of this, I entered the wrong birthday when I signed up for 7cups to protect myself. I wasnt aware of the aging up process until it was too late. I lost contact with someone who I had been helping for over a year, and now they are just gone. I feel horrible, I feel like I abandoned them. I don’t have any way to say goodbye or to explain what happened without putting myself at risk because everything requires me to send ID. I am having trouble coping with this. I feel so guilty and I constantly worry about this person. I wish I had at least some closure. I am wondering if anyone here can help. Thank you all for reading and understanding.
@2389cat you can still tag the member in your thread and talk to them...but it won't be private
@2389cat Hi, Cat. I understand your qualms and I'm sorry this has been a difficult experience with you. Our reason behind the birth dates are such so that we can keep our teen side safe which is why it's important to put in the right birth date. I see that you are on the teen side? Would you please be able to PM me with more information so I can see how to help you?
@FrenchToastClub I understand that however the "adult side" is worse than the teen side where people are pranking needing help, more inappropriate texts, etc. Whereas when I was on the teen side it was enjoyable to help people etc. I feel like birthdays don't really protect people especially on here. I think having a box to check or something like that might help even that isn't foolproof. I think if someone wanted to pray or whatever they will find a way. They could lie when chatting with the listener etc.
@blissfulTouch29 I’m not really sure I understand what the issues are that you are facing. Can you please elaborate on the foolproof idea that needs to be done?
@FrenchToastClub Having to put your age on this site isn't a foolproof way to protect teens. You are actually hurting them more because you are immediately getting rid of people who are helping them and putting them into the adult side where it is a lot worse. Chatrooms aren't always safe and requiring a birthday on here isn't a good idea or protection.
hope it makes sense...
@blissfulTouch29 According to you, how else do we differentiate between the teen side and adult side when people sign up? :)
@creativeStrings3018 Agreed, strings. I think we can find a way for teens to have more awareness about the fact that they're aging up instead of throwing them to the other side. However, birth dates are important. Would you say you got a banner when you aged up on your dashboard a month before?
i did get the banner in the first few days of the month...but it's just that the side that knows you can't wish you on the special day...and you have to spend your birthday with almost complete strangers...that's why i think we need a few days to be in both the sides
What is this explain to me please. Click on my name and I text back soon. Thanks for your help everyone. XX
@purpleSea7109
Hi purple. When you turn 18 according to the date of birth you have added you are transitioned( moved) from the teen side (below 18 years of age) to Adult side (over 18 years).
This post is where you can ask questions related to the process.
@FrenchToastClub
Is this also for 20+ people?
@TU100OT yes as soon as you turn 18 you are automatically into the adult side of 7 cups
@creativestrings3018 I think the adult side is bad and having a required birthday isnt foolproof or protecting anyone because people can still lie on here. I definitely miss the teen side because it made helping people fun and yes i met a few nice adults on here but people can lie and its not protecting anyone.
@blissfulTouch29
listeners can apply to become a atl to gain access to teen side again .
here more information if you want to apply to become a atl to gain access to teenside again .
Here the Requirements you need to meet to apply for atl.
@Goalsforlife I know still i dont think the adult side is the best or the birthday is the right thing to do
@blissfulTouch29 We cannot continue to keep those turned 18 on the teen side. I understand you may have had a hard time adjusting to adult side, I relate to your qualms. But moving to the adult side is inevitable. If you, instead, have suggestions on how we can support you in aging up, please let me know.
@FrenchToastClub I have been aged up and you have more creeps on the adult side than you do on the teen side it is ridiculous. You should be able to choose whether or not you want to be on the adult side
@blissfulTouch29 Bliss i can totally relate with you..i met several creepy listeners..it was difficult bu thankfully my ttm and some good listeners helped me out ignoring all the creeps and focus on the good people, since you are a listener , you can ask for support and get suggestions on how to avoid/get over the creeps.
@blissfulTouch29 ask for support in listener support room is what i mean..
