Gender

Getting misgendered is one of those things that are inevitable. It hurts almost every time but there seems to be nothing you can do about it. I'm at risk for being called selfish for correcting them. Those same people I came out to years ago still disrespect me but I let it happen and I keep getting hurt. I don't actually want to talk about it with them because I know they don't see the importance or understand it as well. I feel so lonely and isolated as a trans person. I feel like I'm watching everything from a glass box. Like I'm not actually apart of this world because no one can understand me. I don't feel like this all the time, but when I do it sucks. I sort of feel like this right now. I try so hard to detatch from those aspects of people and just focus on the parts that are helpful to me. Or think about the times they acknowledged my gender identity. It means a lot to me, and maybe I'm making a big deal of it and being silly but it really does mean a lot to me. I just hope that one day I can feel comfortable in how I present myself.

@independentMango9865 hey, thank you for sharing this, it must be tough to talk about it... But also tough to keep inside. It's good that you're sharing this, you deserve to be heard.
First of all, don't let anything or anyone ever make you feel like your identity is not valid. You deserve respect for who you are, you deserve to be seen and appreciated for your true self.

You're the only one who can decide what is or isn't worth doing, but it's totally your right to speak up and demand that your identity is respected. You're not exaggerating, you're not making a big deal out of nothing: it is indeed a big deal. It's the difference between feeling welcomed as you are and always having to be confronted with something that hurts you. If they truly love you and care for you, they have to make an effort. Otherwise, if they can't respect you, maybe they are not worth all the love you have for them. And it can be lonely to realize that, but it doesn't mean that it will always be this way. There are people out there ready to see you and appreciate you for the person you are.
