How is the listening and communication in your relationship?

Hello everyone!

I was reflecting about relationships and communication, so I had some thoughts I would share with you and know your opinion as well!

They say most talk and nobody listens. But what does listening means? Is it just about to listen to words or to listen to the feelings expressed by them? What is communication at higher level, then?

* How is the listening and communication in your relationship?

* Do you think that if the partner would listen to what you say getting beyond words and focusing on how you may feel, it would make the difference that matters?

@BeyondTheInvisible hey there! lovely thread

* How is the listening and communication in your relationship?

really good! ( i am not in a relationship but i ll just take my best friendship). we communicate a lot and tell ech other right away if theres a problem and we both listen to each other and i think thats also a huge reason why we ve been best friends for 10 years now smiley

* Do you think that if the partner would listen to what you say getting beyond words and focusing on how you may feel, it would make the difference that matters?

i think in this friendship with her it would not make a difference, as she is already really understanding and always takes care of my needs too!

I'm learning that empathy may be the most powerful communication tool in a relationship. Empathy makes us feel heard, understood, and no longer alone when we're drowning in sorrow, frustrated, angry, or any other strong emotion. Sharing emotions is what deepens our relationships and brings us closer. You can empathize even if you don't agree with your partner, and doing so will open their mind toward understanding your viewpoint as well.

I realized this was what I really need to pull out of some moderate depression I've been living with for years. Empathy doesn't come easy to my husband, so I'm realizing I need to ask for it and also really work with him on changing our communication to be more empathetic toward each other.

@BeyondTheInvisible

Thank you!
Dropped my son off for a week-long camp yesterday, so we are planning a short 2-day getaway and several date nights while he's gone. With kids and work, it is easy to get caught up in the everyday madness and not make time for the important connection between us.

Ah, a favorite topic here. My late wife lost all her hearing. We had to re-discover communication all over again. It became very important to me to understand what she was saying to me, and to make her understand what I was talking about. Since she passed, that has become very important to me.

Most of the women I have dated did not keep up on communication very well. This has lead to breakups. The woman I am now dating had serious problems communicating with her now ex-husband. This type of set-up has worked out extremely well for us, we both listen, and we both express ourselves well. Knowing what the other is thinking and understanding what they are saying can make the whole relationship more positive, better balanced, more loving.
