Listener account unapproved

Hi,

My account [edited by Anomalia to remove account information] was unapproved because of 'chat of sexual content'. There are many profiles here openly chatting about sex, heck I saw one who said he wants to talk to 'cucks'. No bans. I wasn't even sexting or some nonsense. I was having a laugh with someone who I now consider my friend. That's it. Even mentioning the word sex triggered off the warning and I stopped only to find out I am unapproved. And I am the one who always blocks idiots seeking bad chats.

I had great reviews and some people I have been helping for months. I am gutted beyond words, even so because noone is replying to my emails. Whatever it is, I am sorry beyond words. Just reply to me or tell me what to do and I'll do it. 7cups means a lot to me, the joy of helping and the people here. Don't take that away.

A similar thing happened to me some days ago, although my account wasn't unapproved because of it. The system for monitoring chats seems to have got out of control in some way.

There have always been two problems with it. One problem is that it gets triggered by certain phrases that may be completely harmless in context, but the system doesn't capture the context. The other problem is that when people operating the system makes mistakes, which is only human, they are not personally accountable. Both of these problems would be easy to fix, it seems to me.

I see you've put this in Safety & Knowledge, and I agree that it's an important safety issue. Listeners have to feel safe here, otherwise we can't do what we do.

@RarelyCharlie Spot on, especially the last few lines.

If they ever let me back I am never ever posting or helping anyone with personal issues related to intimacy (despite me having the ability to do so). I have been online a long time on forums etc and I never cared about infractions, but this seriously hurt. There was no warning, nothing. I had gone off to have a snack and I came back and its gone. Over Easter I took a break of 2 months and when I came back a couple of people have reverted back to their original problems and I blamed myself for leaving them like that. So all my members on my account will be thinking, great, he's left again.

Thanks a lot 7Cups. I am seriously hurt right now.

@RarelyCharlie Also to add, I had awesome reviews, all 5 stars. And I took real pride in that, but clearly it didn't matter.

@ocdMedstudent9

The system censors some words, so depending on what you were talking about, that may be what happened. You can always send an email to community@7cups.com and state what happened and they can review it for you.

@RarelyCharlie So they banned my above account as well, even though it wasn't alt, it was a member account attached to my Listener account.

I am done with it and done with this community. If this is how they treat people, screw it.

Thank you for your many helpful replies in this thread! I am delighted you value my thoughts on the matter smiley

You agree with us, then, that this has become an important safety issue?

@RarelyCharlie well i think its a very important safety issue charlie if listener accounts are being deleted without any type of warning for such minor infractions as someone thinking that a part of one chat is unprofessional i think unless its a serious safety concern deleting a listener account should be the last resort not the first resort done after attempts have failed to correct the behavior when your dealing with not just one persons life but many lives the listener himself and everyone he supports emotionally the decision to delete a listener account should not be done carelessly

Sometimes the listener's account is deactivated without warning. Sometimes the listener receives an unpleasant e-mail. And sometimes the thing that was censored gets published in the listener's profile. You can easily Google the published ones.

For example, one listener was censored for writing this (I'm quoting something that 7 Cups openly published on the Internet):

I see. Alright. Well, just make sure you're aware that you don't deserve to be bullied. Even if he's a friend.

I imagine the censor blocked the phrase "deserve to be bullied", ignoring the "don't". And then publishing the message on the Internet it was human error.

@RarelyCharlie i definately think there should be time set aside to organize a much more humane organized response ( involving a warning system of some kind : email or a pm to help the listener improve or have them connect with a mentor for a while something at least ) i see a lot of very very organized even overly organized projects here that are creative and fun for everyone so i know organizing is very possible its everywhere but sometimes where its most important - in areas that really affect and are hurting people the most here ... so some things should have higher priority the basics should be focused on and organized first and have priority over other projects i think

I have varying thoughts, but I was more supporting your right to say how you feel and thanking you for supporting others. However, some good ideas have been brought up here :)

I really hope that 7cups admin did not decide to automate the chat censor instead of having real people look at the context im all for automating some things it can free up time and energy that can be spent on other areas but this is one thing that should never ever be automated it will only hurt people a lot of people so if it has become automated I for one would really like to know asap please so that i and other listeners who have long term members who they have been talking to regularly for months/years who have some serious problems including sexual abuse that has happened to them dont suddenly disappear from their lives

so please let us listeners know in this thread if the censor has become automated so us listeners can be rightfully terrified of talking to members and also when it is back to human context scanning thanks

@jennysunrise8

It is not automated. Every censor goes thru a review procedure. There is also the ability to explain your side if you feel something was unfair via email.

I am a member, yet I'm deeply hurt by the taking down of a listener's account. He helped me a lot. And suddenly his account disappeared from my conversation list. I'm pretty sure that he said nothing inappropreiate. I was frustrated and deeply hurt by it. Until I found a way of knowing he is OK. I know 7cups means good. But such abrupt way does not only hurt some kind listeners but also hurt members. No one apologizes to my mental hurt. Why you do so??

A good question. I don't think anyone really knows why at 7 Cups we talk up how supportive we are, yet have a long tradition of behaving in these unsupportive ways.

When a listener's account disappears for some reason or other, sending some kind of message to the members the listener has been chatting to would be such a simple thing technically, but making it happen here could take years and years.

@RarelyCharlie

Thank you for understanding. Tbh I was hurt deeply by this. I mean it. When someone you trust disappeared suddenly. The fear the pain the uncertainty the feeling of insecure is overwhelming. No one cares.

@RarelyCharlie yes exactly a message within the actual chatbox ( which could stay up in waiting for when the listener is able to return instead of having it just vanish into thin air as if it never existed/listener is never coming back ) just notifying the member that there is a temporary problem with their listeners account and the length of time they will be gone when they can expect them back and a message letting them know that its not their fault at all they havent been blocked and just some encouraging words maybe to that member would just be a nice thing to do and comforting to both the listener who wont be worrying about those members and what they might think or do with the sudden completely unexplained loss of their long term listener and the members so they wont think the worst or think its their fault that they did something wrong

I've been feeling both sad and guilty until now. His account hasn't been recovered. I was keep thinking if my words in the conversation triggered anything and caused his account disappeared.

It feels so bad and I log in for so many times looking forward for his account coming back and every time I got is disappointedment and hurt. Please could anyone help???

When you take down a listener's account, could you as least inquire the members who talk with him recently? They know clearly if the listener if harmful or not. You can't ignore member's feelings by just letting a machine or an AI something like that instead of a human to judge it. Has anyone considered the feelings of us? Do you know how frustrated we feel?
