buttons; "Browse Therapists" function doesn't work...I think (CW: triggers listed)
Online therapy is often costly for us members but with a coupon code going on & my doing fairly well for now, I thought I'd look into therapy, though I've never used it online before. Am on the site through my old laptop ATM. When I click the Therapy button with the mouse it does nothing...right-clicking it & opening the link in a new tab works, but clicking the button itself does not. Ditto for the Browse Therapists button. If the site is being optimized for phones then it is at the expense of desktop functionality. When I right-click on the latter, well...
The list of available therapists comes up, of course. The search mechanism apparently does nothing other than limit one's search by location/distance. The "limit to ___ miles from Anytown, __" option works. The limits by topic or specialty apparently don't because no matter what therapeutic foci you check off on the list, the same therapists come up every time. It appears to me that the mechanism is partly functional at best...unless I'm mistaken.
On browsing through a few different therapists I can't help noticing their lists of specialties tend to be quite long & diverse. Is the search function linked to their specialty lists? If so then my initial complaint may be wrong, but I can't tell.
Also - I'm a bit skeptical that any one therapist can specialize in that many topics at one time; if you have credible expertise in helping patients with chronic pain, self-harming, domestic violence, "emotional disturbance", drug/alcohol addiction, racial identity, women's issues, men's issues, infertility, infidelity, dual diagnosis, family conflict, academic underachievement, eating disorders, & underwater Freudian basket-weaving... I have to wonder at the training for therapy in so many & varied psychological issues. To get an understanding in any one topic that isn't superficial requires considerable time & effort. Can even a Ph.D holder gain comprehensive knowledge of any more than two of them...maybe three at the very most? Surely not.
@slowdecline48 There early stuff is working for me. I'm using PC Chrome Browser.
I tried the name search, that works.
I think you are right about how the topics are used, most seem to just check them all off. I do find it a bit annoying as it doesn't really help with help selecting the right therapist. I don't think they are claiming to necessarily be specialized for all those topics, but are willing to apply the tools they use for all of those. I found a therapist who only lists topics in the single digits. When I put in a topic she is excluded from the results, so that seems to work for me.
The topics is not just a 7cups thing either. I think it's Psychology Today? who has a database that I looked through and that seemed similar. I had a similar issues with using an EFAP - paired me with a therapist where I wanted to deal with some big health issues and a traumatic misdiagnosis and he uses sees patients with depression so he wanted me to do a little more each day like he would with people who tend to not due much because of depression. It was like ummm if I could safely do a little more every day I wouldn't be seeing you - that was a major part of something I was trying to cope with, limitations and the likely possibility of becoming sicker over time. The next time I pushed the service a bit more for ensuring it was something they really do support and I think they just didn't glance at a checked off list.
@AffyAvo Thank you for the input. I use the Brave browser...maybe Brave doesn't mesh that well with the page on desktop format? I hadn't thought of that...
Hi!
It does work for me too from the big "Considering Therapy?" button with an image.
Brave is a browser oriented towards safety, it's picky and sensitive with links.
Many things don't work in Brave.
Try with Edge, Chrome, Opera or Vivaldi.
