I'm struggling with addiction and the listeners I've talked to on here have tried to help but it's hard to understand something like this if you've never gone through it. So if you have please respond!

@placidSkies207 As vroomvroom mentioned, you can browse through the listeners who have replied here in the community and PM one of them. You're also welcome to PM me anytime. Just let me know that you're from the community, please. heart

@placidSkies207 I am not a listener here but I am an addict that is over 50 and am over 4 years totally clean. May I please ask what your addiction is and what you are struggling with?

@placidSkies207 I am sorry to hear of your opioid addiction. It is probably the most challenging addiction to quit. I have quit several substances but none being heroin. The withdrawal is a very tough thing that will require assistance to accomplish safely. If you can anyway get into a drug treatment program to assist you with this struggle I strongly recommend it. I have found great support for addiction and getting sober through 12 step programs. Don't get caught up in the God or religious references. This can be for you to decide on a higher power whatever that is for you individually. You need to get rid of anything associated with the use of the drug and separate yourself from anyone who will not support your getting sober especially other users. I know fellowship and being able to reach out for help and support is very important when getting sober. I would seek out in person narcanon meetings as you will find others there who understand what you are going through. I wish I could help you more. Just remember no matter how hard it gets just take it one hour at a time at first, then one day at a time. Don't isolate yourself from the support you can get. Sorry I can't be of more help. We love you man and you must fight to get your life back. You are worth it and you can beat the addict mind.

Hello there! If you are still looking for a listener who is a former addict, please feel free to message me. I'm a recovering alcoholic and have relatives who are in recovery for drug abuse.
