Question about listeners?
Do listeners get paid to listen to people or is being a listener volunteer work like how you can volunteer to work at an animal shelter? I don't fully understand how being a listener works.

Listeners don't get paid
It's volunteer. I was a listener once. Even you can be. You just sign up on 7cups. And they make you do a course online, which basically tells all the rules like how a listener is not supposed to give advice.... (although many don't follow that rule) they're supposed to ask questions to help you find the answers yourself. But yeah, it's volunteer.
I would also add that many members also don’t want to be told that we can’t give advice
I’ve always been that way, I don’t like giving advice because I don’t know all the facts and I also don’t want to be Karmically responsible for someone else’s choices. I am happy to ask probing questions and validate feelings and that’s how I help people find the answers they are comfortable with rather than what a stranger who isn’t living it would suggest with minima data
I’ve had a lot of members understand this and it’s worked out, but I’ve also been treated really badly and cursed at when people just want me to tell them what to do or to “just help” them
I think 7Cups should have members do their own course where they agree to not pester listeners for advice and where they agree not to curse or threaten listeners
Esp since as people are mentioning we don’t get paid for this and are volunteering our Time and Energy

As a listener, I don’t get paid by volunteering. However, I do think volunteering open doors for new skills and job opportunities. I’ve looked at your other query relating to ASD and looking for a job, as a person with similar diagnosis, volunteering is a great way to show and improve your skills to add them to your CV!
There are lots of volunteering opportunities (whether digitally or locally) that may suit your areas of interests and you could relate them in job applications.
