questions about 1 on 1 chats with listeners
hi so I’m a teen here and I’d say I’m pretty new here at 7 cups! I’m sorry if my questions seem a bit absurd, I just need some reassurance, that’s all. so you aren’t suppose to share any personal info with your listener right? because I keep getting a lot of listeners that ask where I’m from, my social media, and ask me to tell them a bit about myself. I understand if they want to know what I’m struggling with but I’m not sure how to respond to it those type of questions because to me they seem a bit personal. I’m not sure if I have to answer them or not because at first I thought it was a it abnormal but then I kept getting listeners who say the same thing so is this normal on 7 cups? because they ask how I’m feeling and then I answer them and they respond with just one thing and start asking me questions like the ones I previous said. I’m not the best at socializing so sorry if I’m overreacting!
@chels384 What isn't allowed is personal contact information. So things like phone number social media handles, email etc.
I think many listeners tend to ask where you're from, and that information can give a bit of insight into a situation due to cultural differences, systems or if they have a resource in mind they think may be applicable.
It's up to you if you want to give that information. It's ok to say that you would rather not share that information!
@chels384 Your questions do not seem absurd, and it doesn't seem like you are overreacting. These serious problems with listeners happen from time to time, unfortunately.
You are right—you should not share any personal information with your listener other than the things you yourself want to talk about. You do not have to answer personal questions that a listener asks you.
If a listener asks you for your social media information, it is best to block the connection and report the listener. On the website, use the button near the top right of the chat, a circle with a line through it. In the app, use the menu at the top right of the chat. Reporting the listener means they will be offered help to understand 7 Cups' rules.
Unfortunately it is normal on 7 Cups to get listeners who ask these personal questions. There are no safeguards to ensure that all listeners understand and respect the rules. 7 Cups mostly relies on members to report bad listeners.
Instead of allowing random listeners to contact you, it is safer to choose a listener yourself from the Browse Listeners page. Then you can choose a listener who has a lot of good reviews, who is verified, and who has a Chat Now button.
