Calling All Verified Listeners: Help Wanted on the 7 Cups Welcome Committee!

The hardest part of the journey is sometimes the beginning, and this is especially true of our newbies. We as a community have the power and ability to ensure they get properly oriented and supported so that their journey is smooth.
I have been actively contacting newbies over the past couple of months and the results have been inspiring. Roughly 80% of those I sent a personal message responded to me and very appreciatively! That's a really big deal because those people have a much higher chance of being retained (retained = staying on 7 Cups). But I need help! So it's with great excitement, that I announce the revamped relaunch of the Welcome Committee!
Through this initiative, we can meet our newcomers at the start with a friendly welcome (think hospitality, a greeter, etc.). We will also provide guidance and resources they need to navigate their first steps.
The tasks are simple. PMing brand new members, saying hi, giving resources, answering their questions, and sending follow-up PMs to make sure their transition is complete.
There are two sides of the Welcome Committee: one to serve members and one to serve listeners.
1. To qualify to join the Member Welcome Committee, here are the requirements:
- You must be a Verified Listener (find out how to get verified here)
- No behavior reports (BPS) within 3 months
- Comfortable PMing
- Google Sheets skills – Basic knowledge of managing data in Google Sheets is necessary. Note: The team uses spreadsheets to copy/paste names and log PMs so you'll need access to a computer/laptop device. This work can't be done via phone. We apologize for the inconvenience
- Maintenance criteria: 1-2 hours a month to dedicate to this project
2. To qualify to join the Listener Welcome Committee, here are the requirements:
- Verified listener
- 100+ chats completed
- 4.5-star rating or above
- At least 5 reviews
- Listener level: Apprentice or higher (6,881+ cheers)
If listener support is your thing, find out more about the requirements on the team's promo post.
You can make a huge difference in our community's growth by joining us. Help us extend our reach and support our precious new folks!
Question: How is this different than clicking the little welcome box on your profile to have the messages automatically sent? Are these two different things?
Okay, I think I answered my own question, is the difference that this is for the listeners? And ticking the box is for members?
@Kait @Heather 225 When you get a chance, please reach out to this person. They have some questions for you about the Welcoming Committee.
Thanks,
calm Mango9611
They should get back to you soon, on this.
As we've grown, we've also been able to lower our monthly requirements!! I hope you'll consider this crucial newbie support role and I am always available for questions!

@Heather225 I have applied!
@Heather225
this has been a fun project!
@Heather225
A newbie just called in on my account a couple of days earlier and left his WhatsApp number. While I welcomed them, I also explained the following:
1) There is a good reason why we all use pseudos because we can't work without anonymity.
2) It is forbidden here, for good reason, to share other social media handles and phone numbers. In my view, it is because you can end up being besieged with messages and calls when you are otherwise busy and not in a "7cups" mode.
Apparently, they can't read or take "no" for an answer.I am waiting for their insistence to report it. We will see...
@Fradiga
hi Fradiga! yes, your reasons are correct! thank you for educating them ,and please do report if they persist. I wrote this post that goes into detail about why we prohibit offsite and why the rule is in place to protect each other:
@Heather225
Thanks!
@Heather225
Hey Heather! I do have to say, I have not applied for it (I dont think i have) And i still have the Welcoming Committee access under my Training, would their be any reason for that? Or had i forgotten that i applied, I dont know! I would love the support, Thanks! 💛
@SkyeBanfeild
Hi, thanks for inquiring! That page is visible to all Verified Listeners. You can disregard it, unless you decide to join this team in the future!
@Heather225
