How to Be More Body Positive With Your Body

"Throw Beauty standards in the trash

The number one cause of low self-esteem, especially when it concerns body image is the influence of societal beauty standards, especially through the media. Every single day, whether consciously or subconsciously, we absorb different kinds of information, without categorizing them as good or bad.

Take mainstream media, most of these images have been created by people following a checklist to create the perfect image, regardless of whether it’s realistic or not. They know that we the people will get hooked on that image.

Reflect on what your body is meant for

Your body has a greater purpose than determining your value. It’s more than a canvas for makeup or pretty outfits.

Are your legs helping you walk like they’re supposed to? Be thankful for your body. When you focus on your body parts’ ability to deliver their actual value, you won’t put them down for not looking a certain way.

Fix what you can and accept what you can’t

Look at your body and think about everything you want to change. Categorize them into what you can fix and what you can’t. Your weight and your posture are fixable but your complexion and nose are not.

Write down how you feel about each feature and why? You may find out that the root of your insecurity is because of a comment someone said, not because you actually dislike that feature.

Accept your flaws

When you accept your flaws, no one can use them against you, not even yourself. You’ll begin to argue with that voice that’s calling you ugly.

Find a job/hobby

An idle mind is a devil’s workshop.

When you have nothing to do you’ll spend a lot of time scrolling on social media which can expose you to more negativity and make you compare yourself to others (unfollow anyone who makes you feel bad on social media). When your mind is occupied with something else, you won’t be able to criticize yourself."

Takeaway: The value of oneself should not be based on appearance. It is essential to look at the bigger picture and focus on what truly matters.

Reflection: How do you practice self-love and body positivity?

This is a great read, I loved the quote "An Idle mind is a devil's workshop" this quote is so true for more than just body image. I would say one way I deal with body image is just to accept what I can't change!

I feel that if other people can’t see any value in you or can’t stand to look at you.. trying to do anything to be okay looking at yourself is almost impossible or just useless in general. Idk
