Because people get into a cycle of addiction. You feel good once where it made you forget about problems or other things but then you come down and those problems are still there. So you start the cycle over again. Once anything is in your system you become dependent on it. Especially with drugs or alcohol. You know what its doing to you but its hard to break the cycle on your own without a good back up network of medical practitioners , psychologists and close family to get the crux of your problem.

Drugs and alcohol affect the way you think, and after a while that lifestyle is all you know. But, once you get away from that lifestyle for a while, your thinking will go back to normal. Remember though that for some it will take longer than for others, just stay the course and you will get there.

Because once you're in so deep it's hard to get back out, it'll be a struggle but you can do it, life is worth it and we all deserve a few tries at it.

It is an addiction. Without constant positive support and reinforcement to stay clean it is very difficult to not relapse. Changing the people you associate with; people who use, and avoiding places that trigger those urges, as well as having at least a couple people you can contact if you find yourself in that situation will all help you to stay clean. If you slip up, that doesn't mean that you failed. You can get back on that wagon, and fight for sobriety another day. Bad habits are hard to give up regardless what they are. But during my internship with substance abuse those are things we really stressed. It is difficult to give up unhealthy relationships also. Continueing to hang out with the people who use drugs or drink a lot will not help your own lifestyle and will only making saying no that much harder.

Because you're an addict. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just part of you. There is so much more to your identity and the biggest thing for me has been to accept that instant gratification has screwed me over. It'll be hard to get out of this, but it's worth it.

I feel that alcohol and drugs will always have that kind of pull as it's an easy way to get away from things that are difficult or things in your mind that are hard. If you had an addiction then it will be a lot harder and this is why a lot of addicts go back to drugs and alcohol. I have never done drugs, but I was a big drinker, I still cannot fully give up alcohol but I managed to lessen my usage. It takes a lot of courage and motivation to stop going back to drugs and alcohol.

In our society, drugs and alcohol are portrayed as normal. In reality, they cause damage to every aspect of your life. Don't feel bad for not being able to escape the world of drugs and alcohol, be glad that you are strong enough to recognize that there is a problem with it.

Drugs are a way to escape reality. Usually there's a deep rooted issue that needs to be addressed within yourself. Getting high will make you feel good temporarily but you're also causing damage to your body that will later affect your health. It can also be because of boredom. When there's nothing else around to do, and you're surrounded by people who have different types of drugs on them. Yes, I agree that there is more to life - way more. The best way to get over substance abuse is to first recognize that you have a problem. I went to N.A when I thought no one understood how I felt and the people there gave a lot of insight and support. Keep busy with your time, make new hobbies, get physically active - once you start exercising your body and mind you will see the extent of the damage you have done and hopefully that's motivation to keep you on the wagon! Best of Luck!

Because it is an addiction. It is a disease. Needs more help. Cannot do it alone. Need a support system.

The reason why the people can't quit the drugs and alcohol, is their life is so unhappy that they have to seek temporarily comfort in them. If they can find their happiness in other things, they will quit automatically.

Because the drugs are doing their effect on you, making you think you need them. At the moment your body believes it needs it, like sugar or any nutriment or whatever its called. The moment you are going to step back from it, your body will be like " "duuude(tte) give me some morree"". Its going to be hard but if you make it through by replacing it by some legit activities such as going to a massage session, you shall be free my dear. Good luck, we wait you at the other end ;)

Because drugs and alcohol and other narcotics literally change your brain. They release chemicals that make you feel better than you can naturally.

Sometime when our addictions have a vicelike grip over us, our sober friends and family leave us. While it may be intended to get us better, it can make everything else seem hostile compared to the blanket that the drugs provide.

Leaving a lifestyle of substance abuse is often difficult because addiction can have a strong hold on a person, both physically and psychologically. Substance use can create changes in the brain that make it challenging to quit, even when the individual wants to. In addition, substance abuse can lead to social, financial, and legal problems that can feel overwhelming. For these reasons, people may feel trapped in their addiction and unable to leave it behind. Seeking professional help, such as addiction treatment, support groups, and therapy, can be a crucial step in breaking free from substance abuse and building a healthier life.
