I can leave my house to go walk around but the idea of being around people for too long scares me and makes me want to cry. What should I do?

It sounds like you may have social anxiety. You can seek professional help to manage it (face to face or on this site) or you can slowly start to take baby steps, forcing yourself to be in social situations and praise yourself every time you do so without crying (wanting to cry is okay, even if it feels uncomfortable).

I understand that this is very hard for you! I have suffered from this myself!! Just take a deep breath and think to yourself I can do this and then say it out loud!! If you say it out loud then you are able to fully believe that you can do this! When you feel anxious when you are out and about focus on something different! Maybe the weather, peaceful sounds around you, maybe call a friend to help you through it!! The possibilities are endless :-)

If you can't handle walking with a bunch of people near by you can either bring an iPod with you to keep you entertained or even finding outlets leading you away from busy streets and into more quiet neighborhood sidewalks.

It’s natural for your mind to be confused when your body reacts like this. Sometimes when we suffer from conditions such as anxiety our body has different triggers that we don’t quite understand. The fact you can identify your triggers is something you should be proud of. First of all you should try and seek help from a doctor in order to discuss your issues. You can also access anxiety forums and threads in order to learn different techniques that could possibly help calm you down and talk to them people who are experiencing the same issues that you are.

I understand where you are coming from. I used to deal with a lot of social anxiety. I found that it helped to get out and be around others for short periods of time and slowly work up to longer and longer amounts. Additionally, because my anxiety was due to negative events that happened to me, I took a self-defense class that increased my ability to feel safe. It was an 8 hour class, but even halfway through it, I realized when I went outside for lunch, that I was not afraid anymore. Something similar may work for you.
