I can't say for sure, but it sounds like you might be dealing with intrusive thoughts. It can be hard to deal with them, especially since these recurring thoughts seldom adhere to reason. Try to be gentle with yourself, and instead of berating yourself, try to question your line of thinking and recognize the flaws. Understanding the thought process and stopping it before it escalates can help. It might also be helpful to leave a light on in or near your room to help reassure you that you know what is there and don't need to be afraid of it.
