First, ask yourself why did you guys break up in the first place? Remind yourself of that as you are making your decision. I know that it hurts right now but if you do decide to not get back together with him than I am letting you know that it does get better. You will feel yourself being happier and experiencing new things. If you believe your ex was the one who caused the break up then ask yourself this "can I ignore the things he/she does and says that makes me upset?" If you believe that you were the one who caused the break up then think about what happened and see if you can improve. It takes two to end a relationship. It is not all your fault and it is not all your ex's fault. I am glad that you asked for help. I hope this helped you! :)

It all depends on why you break up. If it was a small fight then probably yes try to work on the issues, figure out what made you separate. But if the relationship was toxic and the partner is abusive it is better to let it go. After breaking up with loved ones we feel sad, lonely, lost so it feels like getting back together with your ex is a good idea but nothing is going to change, you will end up in the same spot. In my opinion, moving forward and looking for the right person is the best choice.

If you're asking him to forgive yourself solely for the purpose of getting back with him, then perhaps take time to think it over can be good. Obviously, I don't know people involved or the situation, but it would be really suck if you had to go through heartbreak once again on the off-chance that you don't deserve being treated that way.
