I’m sorry to hear that. However it shouldn’t take him hooking up with someone else to realise what he had. You will find someone who knows what they have and will appreciate you. What’s to say he won’t do the same thing if you take him back? It will only become a cycle. If he didn’t respect you from the beginning, he doesn’t deserve you ever.
