Not a lot of people know how to communicate their feelings. Especially in relationships, communication can tend to be tough. Being able to put aside your pride and ego can be hard and it seems your ex was not ready to communicate how they felt toward you. It is not your fault and something like this can be hard to comprehend. It is also important to understand each others communication skills and what would be the best way to understand one another and the situation at hand. It may be many reasons and maybe it wont be easy for you to get the direct answer from him. It seems he did not know how to communicate exactly what he wanted out of the relationship.
