How do I do well in school when the depression is just too much?

Sometimes it's okay to take a break from school until you are in a good enough place to continue. If that's not an option, find support from friends or family. You can always see a counselor at school who is supposed to help get you on track even when you're out of it. You can always do online classes if that is an available option, study at your on pace when you're ready. Don't push yourself, don't burn out, seek help so that you can succeed. Take care of yourself in whatever way is most comfortable. You can escape this.

If I have to be honest, you can't really do "well" during depression. It's just what it is, how it is. Not just school, anything in general. No matter how small or easy task it may be. Nothing is the same. It always feels like you're tied up, blocked out from the outside world surrounded by walls on four sides which are so opaque that you can't see or feel anything outside that feeling, you can't think anything outside those thoughts.. it's just you and the wall. The others outside don't know that it's you inside. No one is aware of where exactly it is that you are at that time and they won't realize. No, they won't be able to. That's exactly how it's all accumulated even more. You won't be able to do "well enough" for others who are standing on the outside no matter how much you seem to be pushing from the inside, giving it your best. But the thing here is, you know that there exists a wall. That's a huge, I repeat, a HUGE step towards breaking out. So congratulations. I am so proud of you. Keep fighting. You know you're a fighter. Everyone is bound to realize someday, after they see you come out of that wall and see you do "better than well"! Until then, you can keep doing well enough from the inside. But always know that everyone is there with you, looking for you.. even if you can't see them because of the wall.. even if they can't find you yet, you're never alone.

Break your school work down into manageable chunks. Try to incorporate good eating and exercise each day to lift your mood naturally and that is usually a better time to try to focus on things. It would be hard to work when you are feeling down so try to make the most of the times when you do feel better and chip away at it, bit by bit and try to incorporate mindfulness and meditation to stay calm and relaxed in the process

Depression is extremely difficult and can cause a lack of motivation. It can also severely impact performance in school. The long-term solution might be talking to a professional and getting what is best for you. However, taking breaks and self-care can help you to continue to do well in school. Taking care of yourself physically (such as eating, sleeping etc) can be beneficial. Try not to overwhelm yourself and put too much pressure on yourself.
