You can definitely try some things before resorting to medication. Try going to therapy. Find a therapist that you can truly connect to and feel comfortable with. You may have to see a few different ones before finding one that is good for you, which is exactly what happened to me. You can also try other things in addition, such as a better diet, exercise, being outside more (exposure to sunlight), etc. Try all of these things before considering medication. Medication CAN work wonders for some people, but my advice from personal experience would to first try therapy for a few months as well as an overall healthier lifestyle and sufficient sleep!

There may not be a cure for depression but there are most certainly ways to ease depression. Winter can be a very big trigger for depression sufferers. Finding sunlight is great for lifting your spirits. Even if it is freezing cold outside take the opportunity to see the sun. Take a drive, ski, snowshoe or just open your curtains or window to enjoy the sun when its available. Consider getting artificial sunlight by getting a sun lamp or sun bright bulbs. Try to get up and get going. Depression can make just getting out of bed a tough task. Make a plan to do one thing each day. Any activity can help beat the blues grocery shopping, coffee with a friend, go to the library, walk the dog. Planning ahead to do one thing at a time can help. Live life minute to minute but live it!
