How can I curb my tendency to replace emotions with food? I've noticed I binge-eat much more when stressed and lonely, which gives me temporary relief but starts me on a vicious cycle of more stress.

beside having a healthy diet. another way to prevent binge eating and cause less stress is through exercising. so be mindful when you eat. take it slowly and stop when you feel full while making sure that you have got enough nutrition. and find time to exercise it always leave me feeling good afterwards :)

This question is very relatable to me and I'm sure lots of other people.Different methods work for different people so it's always good to try New things.Although for me personally I try to find different outlets to let out my emotions for example running or singing or even reading. I understand the feeling. For me, food has always been (and probably always will be) a source of comfort. However, I always feel really bloated and disappointed afterwards. I've started picking up hobbies. They don't even have to be a traditional hobby, like drawing or baking. I've taken to simply playing stress free apps on my phone, no matter how stupid it sounds to play them. Instead of binging, I've started drinking carbonated water (the bubbly feeling distracts me, but I understand that some people do not enjoy that feeling) and playing games that everybody laughs at me for playing (think Candy Crush, Pocket Frogs, Bloons). Regardless, it helps me, so I ignore everybody who laughs or rolls their eyes. I hope this helps
Many people experience this type of relationship with food, so please know that you are not alone. I do recommend seeking a therapist whose advice you trust to help you. They can help you find the source of your stress and teach you coping mechanisms that will help you to feel your emotions in a healthy and safe way. This will also help you enjoy your food again!
There are so many ways to combat stress without relying on food. Start adding a little exercise to your daily routine; it is medically proven that exercise reduces stress and it is a health benefit too. Take a walk, talk to a friend, catch up on some sleep.
You could do other things to take your mind off the stress and other things that may be bothering you
Identify your snack source. Limit your acess to it. Allow yourself three meals a day and a snack during breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner. Build a new habbit to replace the old and stick with it. If you need to talk to someone 7cups is here.
