It's not as easy as it sounds. It's a good rule of thumb to not be seen as someone who holds thirty years worth of grudges. Everyone is different and deals with situations differently, so don't think this is what everyone else would be doing because that won't help you either. If you do forgive and want to forget what had happened with that person, great make sure that is what actually happens. But if you're just saying it to make the mood better and kiss up, you will not be happy with that either. You have every right to be upset with the situation, but you also have every right to want to deal with the situation that best suits you. If you want to try it, there's no harm in doing so, but it's not something you need to do if you don't want to.
