sometimes, if you asimply ask them not to they wont though. usually psychitrists dont really use religion or spirituality in their work just because everyone is so different in different ways they just choose not to. personally my psychiatris has never brought up spirituality or religion ever we usually just speak about feelings and what might help with the feelings. but like i said all of them are different and do different things. my advice would just be open with them about it and about everything thats the only way they can best help you during your treatment. take care.
Yes, actually! I am in a therapy group for individual's with a wide variety of diagnoses and issues. During our last session, we were discussing our favorite forms of dealing with our problems when we don't have a professional present. Some mentioned affirmations, some said they liked venting to friends, some just wanted to listen to music to allow themselves to really feel their emotions, and some liked to journal. Then, one person recommended spirituality. It's something that they'd been doing for a while now. For them it's less of a religious practice and more of a therapeutic coping mechanism. The group leader jumped in to the conversation, telling us that spirituality is in fact recognized as an official treatment method, and that many therapists openly practice. All you'd need to do is check with your provider to see if they are comfortable in assisting you in that aspect or request someone who is! Her only warning, which I will share with you, is to not do shadow work by yourself. It brings up many repressed feelings and memories you may not have known you have, so it is always best to have a partner you trust to be with you. Good luck!
