So I'm trying therapy soon . I just wanted to ask about your experiences. How much has it been helpful for you?

I have been in therapy for around 6 months. At first it is challenging talking to a stranger about personal problems, but as time goes on it is easier to connect with your counsoler. After about 2 or 3 months I felt like my counsoler was my friend and I am happy to have her.

I first started attending therapy when I was eight and it has helped incredibly, to be honest. Of course, that all depends on your therapist and how well you connect with them/how good they are at their job. It's extremely important to be as honest as possible with your therapist in my experience. I've lied to therapists in the past and that does nothing in terms of helping you in your journey to recovery. When I began being honest with both my therapist and myself, I've found therapy to be incredibly, incredibly helpful. Just try your best to not be too nervous, the therapist is only there to help you, not to judge you or anything.

Therapy has always supported me with reflection. It allows me to look at the situation/circumstances in a safe place without judgment. Personally, I have found it really helpful on a personal and professional level. I do also see it as a form of self-care. Probably not all that often, or as regular as some other activities I do on a weekly basis, but it is certainly nice to be able to collect my thoughts and can a deep dive into my emotions. I have to admit, I have had better sessions than others. This can be due to a variety of different things from therapist engagement to my participation. I found the first few sessions quite odd, and at times I felt quite "fake" in the sense of what I was saying. However, with experience and more sessions you do get a sense of overcoming those experiences and begin to understand the value of therapy. It is a journey.

Therapy is what you make of it. Being active and engaged makes the impact greater. Some weeks it can be difficult to share and get the help I need, so it doesn't feel useful. I found that by sticking with it, therapy has helped me figure out short-term and long-term goals, as well as giving me the tools to help ease some terrible moods. And if you find that the therapist you begin with doesn't fit with your personality or isn't helpful for you, then it is more than okay to move on and find a therapist that works for you!

Personally, I am really involved in therapy and love it. I feel like it has bettered me emotionally and mentally. When you begin therapy, go open minded. It may be scary to open up to someone new, but they want to help you and your new journey. If the first therapist you meet up with is not a good match, do not get discouraged. There are plenty of different therapists, you will know right fit when you meet them. It takes time, but I wish you the best of luck on your therapy path. I hope you find success! :)
