Hey there,
A lot of people are mean about things that they do not understand. There are a lot of people that don't care to understand the different lifestyle decisions that others make. A lot of people have a hardcore set of values that make it hard for them adjust to things that are different. This is by no means an excuse for the behavior. It is not the job of an individual person in the LGBTQ community to educate anyone even if they ask. Self care is key so if that is something that you or anyone else in the community feels comfortable doing, then please do but not at the danger or expense of yourself. The goal for any marginalized group is to find supports within their community and to understand that the lifestyle you have is perfectly fine and not necessary for everyone to accept but necessary for them to respect.
