This is a complicated issue. If you are not ashamed of where you live, It should not bother you. If it bothers you maybe because you love him and do not want to lose him.
You have to talk about the matter to him personally and tell him about how you feel about his behaviour and request him to do something about it because it is hurting your self confidence as well as your relationship. Do not be too harsh. Also try to know why exactly he is ashamed of. If he really is ashamed of your lifestyle and you think you can change them to make him happy then do so. If his shame comes from no logical comprehension then maybe he is not mature enough yet as a person which you can tell him.
If you love him you would not want to hurt him but you would have to sort out this issue if its bothering you. If he loves you he would surely do something. Cheers. Take care
