Volunteering is a great way! What are you interested in? Volunteer a few hours and you will meet people who share at least one interest with you AND you will be helping others -- both great outcomes!
There are plenty of ways in which you can find new friends. You could chat to someone interesting at school/work, or if this isn't possible, you could go to a group of your interest (i.e. sewing, sports, technology). You could even spend more time with family, and they could introduce you to some brand new people. What are your interests? You could perhaps try to find individuals (if you aren't feeling comfortable with groups) who enjoy these interests too. Sometimes, we enjoy spending time with people who like the things that we do - they're great conversation starters and could act as a foundation for a great friendship!
