Licensed Professional Counselor

About

Navigating the world of therapy can be overwhelming and confusing. I make every effort to be transparent and to provide as much detail as my clients may need in order to make this process as easy as possible. My therapeutic approach is considered person-centered. This means that it is client-driven in that the client leads the discussion. The metaphor I always use is that my clients' life is a garden; they choose which path to go down and which flowers to smell. At times, I may ask that we spent more time at a particular place in the garden to process, find parallels, or highlight important points that were discussed. On some occasions, I may lead the session by providing some education or leading an activity with you.

I also practice trauma-informed therapy, which involves a focus on the human brain and how various experiences can affect us physically, as well as emotionally. At times, I may provide information about these topics to assist clients in better understanding their reactions and emotions. Too many times, trauma survivors think that their reactions and emotions are "crazy" or that something is "wrong" with them; when it is actually a somatic result of a traumatic event and the body is simply responding to the trauma you experienced.

I am a therapist that provides warmth, acceptance, and non-judgment. True work cannot be done if the client does not feel that they can fully open up to a therapist, and this is why I strive to give a healthy and supportive presence.

I am qualified to provide therapy, as I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC), a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I also have my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my experience involves counseling survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse. Certainly, this does not mean that I "know it all" and it is impossible for me to grow if I am no longer learning. You are the expert on your own reality and my place is to better understand your reality by learning about it from you.

Thank you for your consideration. I am excited to hopefully work with you and I am happy to answer any questions that you may have!
