Seeking guidance can be very daunting and yet here you are! I'm glad you've made the decision to reach out and build your social supports. I thoroughly enjoy helping clients manage their stress and build coping skills. I've known that being a therapist was my "calling" since I was an adolescent so it's safe to say that it's my passion. I work closely with clients in guiding them to take a step back in order to look at how their thoughts, behaviors and relationships may be contributing to mental (and physical) distress. I go at the pace my clients set while gently encouraging them to try and exceed what they believe they are capable of. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort wherein I follow my client's lead but can share insight if they feel they've "veered off the path." My job isn't to give advice; my job is to guide, provide tools and help clients explore their lives even through their most painful experiences (past and present). I enjoy working with clients of all ages and stages.
I am flexible and want to make this an experience that you a) benefit from and b) enjoy. This means that I can be more directive and ask a lot of questions to help you learn more about yourself and set goals or I can simply lend a supportive ear. Often the needs of a client change throughout the course of therapy and I'm simply glad to be along for the ride. One of my strengths is my openness to feedback so I always encourage clients to let me know if something we're doing isn't working, I'm happy to help us change direction. My ego isn't at play here, your mental health and well-being are. A therapeutic relationship takes time to hit its rhythm and that's all part of the process. I find it helpful to share that, in my experience, therapy is more like a marathon, not a sprint and some miles are harder than others.
I have been married to my husband for 5 years but we've known each other since middle school; we have one child together. My marriage fuels my desire to help couples in distress, my child fuels my desire to help parents in distress and my other life experiences fuel my desire to work with everything else in between! I work hard to practice what I preach including engaging in self-care, being self-aware and keeping my relationships healthy through authenticity and honest communication.
Notice: I am licensed in the State of Alaska; we may end up being in different time zones which affects response time. I am available to respond to messages throughout the day Mon-Fri but as part of my own self-care and dedication to my family, I am generally not online Sat/Sun. You can generally expect a response within a few hours or less (except during the night). Very likely, we won't be online at the same time and it'll just be like a text message conversation with each of us responding when we can.
