It is a learning opportunity based on the teachings of the book ‘Get Together: How to Build a Community with Your People [https://www.amazon.com/Get-Together-build-community-people/dp/1732265194].' The book is written by authors who are experts on community building. We encourage anyone who is interested in community building and management to read the book but it's optional. We have studied the book and summarized the key lessons and their 7 Cups applications. The course will go on for 4 weeks, each week we will look at the findings of two chapters and how the principle knowledge can be applied to 7 Cups. Each week's learning will be accompanied by a quiz to test the knowledge! In order to receive your certificate and the Community Builder badge, you need to complete all quizzes (80% or over-score in all + no copy/pasting for essay questions), and submit the evaluation form. Failure to submit the evaluation form will result in no certificate or badge. Note: Each quiz contains a field where we ask you to apply some of the chapter's teachings. These are essay questions so they are not auto-graded however if a user is found to be copy/pasting the answers to satisfy the word count or not putting in the effort to come up with a relevant answer then the person will not receive a certificate or a badge. This is not a mandatory course so if you choose to take part then please try to study the notes and be honest in your answers. It is the only way to learn! Here is an overview of this course: Course Description: It is natural for us to want to avoid problems. Problems can cause worry, anxiety, and frustration. These are feelings that we often want to avoid. Problems, however, are the key to growth. When we face our problems directly we get smarter and grow stronger. A saying that captures this is: Progress = Pain + Reflection. This course helps you learn the value of problems by highlighting the difference between problems you might be concerned about and problems you can directly solve. Next, it walks you through the ancient practice of steering into problems directly in order to unlock their value and gifts. Course 3, Discussion 1: Service Leadership at 7 Cups

...See more The term Service leadership [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servant_leadership] (based on the philosophy of servant leadership, in which the main goal of the leader is to serve). Sometimes leaders or community members who help with projects receive high praise for their efforts (and they all deserve it) but this is never to take away or undermine the contributions of listeners who fly a little bit more under the radar. How one chooses to spend their volunteer time on 7 Cups is up to them & we love you all the same! We've long said that if you want to be a mentor, be a mentor, eventually you'll get a badge. These service leadership roles are incredibly important to the functionality of our community. The individuals in these posts do an excellent job helping to keep our community safe and positive. I am very thankful for them. Service leadership is simply about where you plan to spend your time. To those of you out there who focus 100% on member chats, we LOVE YOU! To those of you out there who focus on community programs, we LOVE YOU TOO! All of these contributions are equally valuable and important. As a collective community, our aim is to honor your contributions, no matter where or how they manifest. In this vein, my hope is that you will remember 3 key things: 1. Self-care - always! Make sure self-care is baked into your volunteer work here 2. Don't take on more than you are able. If you don't have the bandwidth to do something, you owe it to yourself and the community to say no. It is 100% okay to say no. (And if you are asking someone to help you with a project, please do not get upset if someone has to say no.) 3. Remember that 7 Cups is an ecosystem. Every single contribution matters! If you'd like to be in a service leadership role, my advice would be: 1. Pay attention to how others are contributing 2. Figure out what gets you excited in the community! 3. Once you have an idea of what gets you excited, dive in! You dont need to have a mentor badge to help out, get involved & start learning. 4. Course 2, Discussion 5: Conflict Resolution 101: Dealing with Gossip and Triangulation

...See more Let's call you Person A. Now, you have a problem with Person B and really dont know what to do about it. You go to Person C to discuss it. This is triangulation, when a problem between 2 people comes to involved a 3rd person unnecessarily. While gossiping is spreading or engaging in the discussion of any information that is not true, exaggerated or hurtful to the individual. If you are not comfortable saying the same to someone directly, it is likely gossip and should not be shared with third person. The triangulation process can happen in all relationships. Let's say someone is offended by another user. Triangulation can be very tempting, but it ultimately only ends up negatively impacting all involved. Having clear, calm, and honest conversation is challenging and requires you to overcome your fears, but, when done right, it positively impacts all involved. At times a person doesn't realize that some words or phrases may seem intimidating to another person.We all come from different backgrounds thus it is important for us to support each other. Why is triangulation unhelpful? Because it perpetuates the spread of information, which can be hurtful to those involved. It lends itself to rumor spreading and it takes a private situation between two users and exposes it to more people. What should you do if someone comes to you for support on something which occurred in the community? 1) Never share the names of another user 2) Never share specific details of a chat with another user 3) If someone wants to share with you, please say this: "I am sorry this happened! Sounds like a challenging situation. As to avoid triangulation, it would be best for you to practice conflict resolution with that person. If conflict resolution is not possible, please let a community manager know by filing a L-L report. Please do not share this situation with other users as to preserve confidentiality. Special note: You should avoid triangulation with all other users, including mentors, group mods, peer supporters, mentor leaders and ambassadors. Any time a situation cannot be worked out via conflict resolution, please file a L-L report. We have covered the don’ts, now lets see how we can resolve conflict. * Step back and slow down * Think before you put your words across in order to avoid something that will escalate the conflict. * Show clarity regarding your intentions and goals for the conversation * Listen to learn something new and express your views and feelings professionally. * Avoid blaming or changing another person's point of view. * Avoid assumptions and ask questions to explore the other persons story * Do not convince them you are right. * Listen to the person on the opposite end as they will more likely try to understand you. * Express your feelings without holding the other person accountable for the conflict * Use I statements to express yourself. * State a feeling rather than judging. * Be responsible for your assumptions * On the internet, messages can be interpreted in several ways. To think that your beliefs and conclusions about others are the truth, will only escalate the conflict. * Find a common ground * Reaching a common ground will make it easier to resolve the conflict and will diffuse defensiveness. ✒️ Taking responsibility for our actions: Take the Pledge! As a listener in our community, it is your responsibility to stop triangulation when you see it or are invited to participate in it. Doing this will keep our community healthy and moving in a positive direction. ...See more Congrats! You made it the second course in the LDP! In this course, we focus on the specific interpersonal skills needed to be a strong leader on 7 Cups, including mastery of communication skills, time management, conflict resolution, stress management and empowering new leaders. I know if you are here, you have read our values and culture guide. I would like to start off by further emphasizing one value that's required for a leader to be successful here, and that is balancing High Expectations & High Warmth. Work environments with high expectations and minimal warmth tend to result in companies that are very driven, rule-oriented and risk-averse. The people do not tend to grow as much personally or professionally. On the other hand, workplaces that are high in warmth, but have minimal expectations, tend to struggle. Everyone is happy and feels loved, but not a lot of effective or focused work gets done. 7 Cups is high expectations AND high warmth. We expect a lot from you. You might feel like we think you are more capable than other people have suggested or maybe even more capable than how you see yourself. That is okay. Every person on the team has outperformed and done better than they expected. This is largely because warmth, patience, and trust help people make much more progress than they have in other environments. Course 2, Discussion 2: Lead by example

...See more Great Leadership, unsurprisingly, starts with yourself! Practice what you preach. Lead by example. I am sure all of you heard these phrases. But why are they so iconic? Because the journey starts with the first step and you are the person who is taking the initiative to lead -- Start a journey! So, you are the one who needs to take the first step before expecting others to do it. To start with leading yourself, close your eyes and visualize two people: someone who inspired and encouraged you to be like them, and someone who discouraged you to be not like them. Then, write down the good qualities of the person who inspired you as well as the qualities of the second person. You do not have to be specific with the details. Just a bulleted list. Now, compare the list to yourself. Note the good qualities you have, the bad qualities you have, and give yourself a rating on a scale of 1-10. What we just did is identified your strengths and weaknesses and what you need in order to lead yourself. This allows you to create self-awareness. Self-awareness is key to leading yourself in the right direction. But, leading yourself is not easy. Just being self-aware isn't enough. It's igniting the spark but not enough to catch the fire. To catch the fire, you need to be persistent with your practice, which is regular reflection. Be consistent with monitoring your efforts and holding yourself accountable. You can't effectively lead others until you know how to lead yourself. That happens through Self-Observant Leadership: when you deeply understand your identity, compare it to your reputation (how others experience you) and then make meaning of the observations, and choose to adapt. This is a sub-community for the Leadership Development Program. The program is designed to help you become a strong leader. Each course is created to get you to focus on the leader in you and to give you theoretical and practical knowledge of becoming a leader. It also teaches you interpersonal skills, problem-solving, building a community, and even basic leadership principles.

What is required to join?
- For listeners: Verified Listener badge or at least have applied to become a VL (in progress)
- For members: No newbie badge, Appreciated Voice badge

The program’s duration can be either 6 weeks or 8 weeks and we onboard new trainees every Monday. So please apply 5 days before the Monday you wish to join. You can apply here!
