There are several possibilities. You might just be growing, but that can also be a major sign of depression and you might want to check for other symptoms as well.

It could be a lot of different things. It could be because of increased physical or mental activity. Sleep is one way that we can rest our mind and body and if you're exerting more energy than normal your body might be more tired. Sleeping too much can also be a sign of underlying health problems or even depression. If you're concerned, speak with your primary doctor who will be able to rule out illnesses and/or refer you for appropriate care.

Sleeping too much can mean that you are experiencing mental or physical difficulties. For example, some people sleep too much because they took medications, which can affect their sleep patterns. Sleeping too much can also be a sign of depression or anxiety, for example, they broke up with their significant other. They tend to sleep more because they are sad or tired. Sleeping too much can mean different things, it is better to see a doctor if sleeping too much is a repetitive activity for you.

Sleeping too much is usually a sign of some mental complication, however, it could also mean that you overworked your body at some point and your body is trying to repay that sleep debt. Although, there are some psychological issues that can lead to sleeping too much like Depression, Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy but I suggest you seek professional help if you want a diagnosis and further help.

it could be a depression or extra need to sleep because of physical exhaustion. Too much is as bad as too little

You're tired, or maybe you've got a problem which does you sleep. When you do nothing you're tired too.

Medically speaking this can mean a lot of things. Disruption in sleep habits can go from way too much sleep to not enough or poor sleep, segmented sleep, etc. Sleep disturbances is a big tell tale sign of depression. But it doesn’t have to mean that. It can be that you have other issues. Low thyroid. Anemia. Or even something like bad sleep hygiene. Examine what else is going on and a trip to a doc to discuss it wouldn’t be a bad idea.

It could mean that I am avoiding feelings or responsibilities. It could also mean that I am just mentally, emotionally, or physically exhausted or a combination of all three.

It could mean a lot of things. The most frequent reason that people sleep a lot, is because their bodies need sleep. Sleep is essential, but too much sleep can be too much. In conclusion, unless it's above 9/10 hours a day (7-8 is recommended) then you shouldn't be worried. It's also completely normal to sleep more when you get older, as your body needs it.

What does your routine look like? On an average, how often do you think you sleep? Are you getting enough sleep at night? If not, how much time do you sleep for in the day to compensate? Based on your age, if you sleep for more than a maximum of 7-10 hours, you may be sleeping too much.

Sleeping too much can be a symptom of many disorders. Depression is one of them. Depression can cause extreme tiredness for no reason. Anxiety is another reason, it can stop you from being able to fall asleep because you're stressing. It can also be a symptom of many physical disorders, I'd advice seeing your doctor about it.

What do you determine as sleeping too much? recognise when you noticed the change in your sleep pattern. Did anything occur at that time? change or loss of job, or any other changes? Have you been exerting yourself, under any stress or pressures? physical and mental exertion could mean that your body and mind need the rest. Listen to your body. Do you exercise? exercise can energise you, oxygenate your body and release endorphins which can help regulate your sleeping patterns.

Does this happen a lot with you? How restful is your sleep? If you find this continuing to be a problem, discuss it with your doctor, to rule out any sleep disorders.

It could mean that your brain gets too tired during the day and needs more sleep. It could be an indication of depression, too.

You may be depressed. Your body feels that you are sad and refuse to do anything but sleep, because sleep is an escape from reality.

You could be showing symptoms for depression but I'll leave that to a professional to give you a proper diagnosis. Maybe you haven't been getting enough sleep and your body is just trying to catch up from being sleep-deprived.

This can be based off a variety of things, for instance it can be caused by depression, stress, over-eating, or lack of physical exertion. Over sleepin can be caused from all of this because the release of these hormones can cause your body to start to shut down and “tire” much easier than an everyday person who isn’t experiencing the same feelings. Either way, seeking a medical professional can be and usually is the best answer to truly understand your specific reasonings.

Sleeping too much could mean anything, including not much at all! A single change is rarely enough to tell what might be wrong. If your sleeping habits are worrying you, and you are struggling to change them, it may be worth mentioning them to your GP, who is likely to ask you further questions to determine what might be a problem, or whether it's nothing to worry about at all :). Hope this helps!

You could be stressed, or hurt. (Hurting; not physically though 😉) When you sleep, your brain takes the time to heal itself. Your body gets reenergised for the next day . But in some cases, say a lot has been going on, your brain takes extra time. Expecially if what’s been going on has been tiring. Or...if your depressed your body is healing. (I’m trying to explain it, but it’s hard 😂)

Sleeping too much could be a sign of many things, one of them being depression, and should definitely be assessed by a doctor or therapist. Sleeping too much could also be dietary, or other physical problems that should be assessed by a doctor.
