Feeling ignored by the medical community

ElephantTiger1 January 6th, 2018

I just wanted to know whether anyone else has had bad experiences with doctors. I have had undiagnosed Chronic Pain for 7 Years but no doctor is willing to diagnose me with anything or at least help me deal with the pain. It is frustrating and isolating and has led to some other problems in my life; how do you deal with this?

Hi there!

I am really sorry that you experienced this situations, things like that sould never happen sad

I really hope that maybe another group of doctors will be able to make the diagnosis and help you like you deserve.

It sure is emotionally tiring and it can trigger anxiety and sad thoughts, I really wish you to keep all that under control because it's really hard to face.

Thank you for your thread, maybe some people will share some good tips about how to deal with that.

Take good care for yourself!

The worst I've dealt with is a doctor repeatedly trying to upsell me on hearing aids. My hearing loss is bad, but with a very modestly priced pair of hearing aids, I do ok. I can't afford much more than what I have, so I've just gotten used to what I have.

This guy tried getting me to pay a couple thousand, or more, for a pair of hearing aids that I normally drop 300 to 500 bucks on. I told him there was absolutely no way I could afford what he wanted me to buy and that the only reason I had the hearing aids I did was that I bought them when I was living as a teacher in China.

He said, "Maybe you should go back to China."

Obviously, my situation and yours in no way compares, your situation sounds maddening. I hope you have some sort of support network to help you along with this situation. Being in pain constantly isn't anyway to live.

I could list about a million circumstances where doctors have treated me like a hypochondriac for chronic pain and physical symptoms of serious health problem......I have watched medical professionals fluff their proceedure or fully not follow proceedure they had outlined was their protocol and discharge me without followup, explanation or recourse...... on serious health issues...... youd be a long day in hell getting any sound medical help from western medical doctors unless your arm or head had been kicked off your body........not fully sure ya still would then...... if they saw any psych history theyd probably assume you did it to yourself

I find the medical community overall ignores people like me. They often mention groups that might need to be cautious, but my condition or even broad group that would include my condition gets mentioned. Some of my meds aren't in the pharmacy system. Most medical professionals are clueless about my condition and some are so ignorant about home IV use that they won't even believe patients are trained to do it themselves/I must not know what an IV is and I'm doing another type of injection.

I'm sorry to hear that and I'm glad you have a place like this to find others who will at least listen to you.

I have experienced this and it is indeed really frustrating. I try to remember that doctors are people too, therefore they've got their own personal issues and biases which have nothing to do with me (even though they end up affecting me). I also try to send feedback to the clinic/hospital when I have an unsatisfactory experience. Sometimes I get other doctors to send constructive criticism for me. Breathing exercises like alternate nostril breathing can be good for cooling down when you're feeling stressed or frustrated.
