My Migraine Journey - Share Yours, Too!
I thought it might be nice to share our migraine journeys. I first remember complaining of headaches to my mom in 6th grade. She didn't believe me. It took a while for her to believe me, and my grandmother had to tell my mom that my great aunt suffered from migraines exactly like mine, and they left her bedridden for days on end.
My migraines wouldn't stop. I'd have them 3-5 days a week. We saw specialists, discovered I have a Chiari, and finally found a medication that worked, until I hit about 20. I had a migraine that made me go deaf for 2 weeks.
This led me to the medication rollercoaster all over again, until finally my doctor suggested Botox (which was NOT FDA approved yet for migraines, but he tried it in a last ditch effort).
It was a new lease on life. I went from having migraines from 3-5 days a week again like before to maybe one actual migraine a month, and just a few minor headaches every month (which are typically triggered by being out in the sun too long, going on a roller coaster, not enough sleep, etc.)
But I always know when my botox is wearing off....because they start coming back. But this is the only treatment that has actually helped me without terrible side effects or simply not working at all. I'd love to hear other people's journeys as well!
thank you for sharing your story. I am sorry to hear that you had to go through a roller coaster of treatments to find the right one.
I dont quite remember how old I was when i first had my migraine headache. I know it was when I was already here in the United States. I do remember having the worst headache ever and only on the left side. It was so bad that i was nauseated if I had attempted to do anything but lay down on the bed. My mother was at work, I just laid in bed until she had came home. Where she gave me a medication and an ice pack to lay down.
I was not officially diagnosed with migraines until I was near my 20's when I was more in control of my health. I found a primary care physician who then referred me to a neurologist. The first medication I was given had given me bad side effects to where the slightest touch on my skin hurt. I reported this eventually and meds were changed. I learned some of my triggers and that helped me prevent some of my migraines.
I have not tried Botox but I may soon. I want to get my daith piercing back because it helped me
Good luck with your migraines.
@Keola I'm glad you were able to find a neuro who was able to properly diagnose you. Also, are you still suffering from migraines? If so, how often?
That's the first I have heard of that piercing helping. I had found Botox before those became a thing, and I hadn't heard anyone that had any success with them! That's amazing and I'm SO glad it helped you! I hope you're able to get it again soon. <3

Migraines are now maybe once or twice a month, I have been able to prevent it with a medication. My piercing, unfortunately was accidentally pulled from work and I had to remove it. I have to wait a year for my cartilage to heal. I want to put it on the side where my migraine attacks are. But otherwise, since my daily medication, my migraines are far and few in between plus it only last for a few hours versus the whole day
@CompassionateDreamer8522 Thank you for sharing with us!! 🍂
