...See more Hello community, I hope you are all taking it easy on yourself. As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month [https://www.7cups.com/forum/generalsupport/MentalHealthSupportAwareness_1600/MentalHealthAwarenessMonth2024ForumDiscussionsMaserpost_328898/], today I want to discuss supporting your loved ones.  You may all relate that seeing someone you care about battle mental health challenges can be heartbreaking. You want to help, but you might not know where to start, or what different you can do. Here are a few steps we can take to be a strong support system for them:  * Simply start a conversation and let your loved one know you're there for them. Phrases like "I'm worried about you" or "Is there anything I can do to help?" open the door. * Then, try to listen actively. That means being fully present, validating their feelings, and avoiding judgment. * Also, ensure respect for boundaries. Let them guide the conversation and share what they're comfortable with. Boundaries are applied on both sides and ensure to set your own boundaries as well. It is okay to say no if you cannot handle something.  * Other than that try to educate yourself. Learn about their specific condition because increased understanding fosters empathy and better support. * Encourage and practice self-care.  * Seek your own support and talk to friends, family, or a therapist. Taking care of yourself allows you to better care for others. * And, focus on what you can control: Their recovery is their journey, but your love and support can make a big difference.  All small steps count and can make a difference in their lives as well as promote awareness for mental health. And please know we are all here with you to listen to and support you. You matter and your voice matters.  I am sending this to you:  "I am proud of you. I am proud of you for reaching out and joining us here. I am proud of all you have been able to do and for taking all small steps.  For choosing to get back up with courage, and trying to find a path.  I am proud of you for staying kind and caring for others.  I am proud of the person you are.  You are doing so much better than you know.  I am proud of you and I believe in you." Tag and share this with someone you know and let's support and empower each other. T h a n k  Y o u!!
Would You Rather: The Trust Chain
Icebreakers and Games / by ASilentObserver

...See more Hello everyone,  let's get this game flowing. This is a Would You Rather? Chain Reaction game. Here's how it plays: Here is how it goes: * The first participant starts the chain by posting a "Would You Rather?" question-related to trust. * Example: Would you rather always know the truth from a friend, even if it hurts, or be happy in blissful ignorance? * The next participant replies by choosing between the two options in the previous question and explaining their reasoning. Then, they ask a new "Would You Rather?" question with a trust theme. * We keep the chain going, each participant responding to the previous question and adding their twist! Let's get started and see where this trust chain takes us. Please remember there are no wrong answers, so be honest and have fun. Let's see how long we can create this chain.
Mental Health Awareness Month: Compassion matters

...See more Hello all,  Compassion is a word tossed around a lot, but what does it mean? In simpler words, compassion is about understanding the suffering of another person, feeling empathy for their situation, and reminding them that they aren’t alone. In a society that seems to feel harsh and divided, compassion acts as a bridge. It helps to connect with others on a deeper level, fostering stronger & healthier relationships and building a more supportive environment to reach out and get support. Compassion has a profound impact on our mental and emotional well-being. When you practice compassion towards others, you cultivate a sense of interconnectedness and belonging. It helps to boost our self-esteem and reduce feelings of being alone. Those who practice compassion towards others are more likely to experience lower levels of stress and anxiety and better well-being.  How can you practice compassion? Compassion is a skill that we can all develop. Here are some steps to get us started: * Practice active listening: Pay close attention to what others are saying, both verbally and nonverbally. * Consider different perspectives: Try to see things from another person's point of view. * Offer support what you can: Even small gestures of kindness can make a big difference. * Forgive yourself and others: Holding onto negativity hinders compassion. * Start small: Show compassion to yourself and those around you every day. What are your thoughts on compassion? Share your experiences and thoughts below.
Let's talk about smashing the barriers to mental wellness

...See more Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, just like physical health. Still, the stigma surrounding mental health can often prevent people from reaching out and getting support. This discussion is your chance to open up the conversation and explore ways to break down these barriers with us.  Even though we made significant progress in raising awareness and promoting acceptance. At present times, the issue of mental health stigma continues to persist. There is still a long way to go in eradicating the stereotypes and discrimination related to mental health.  Some of the key contributors to mental health stigmas and discrimination are:  * Lack of understanding and education surrounding mental health challenges. Many people still hold misconceptions and beliefs that perpetuate negative attitudes towards those struggling. * The media plays a significant role in perpetuating mental health stigma by sensationalizing and misrepresenting them.  * Also, reluctance of individuals to seek help due to the fear of being judged or discriminated against.  Mental health stigma remains a significant barrier to mental wellness and recovery for many individuals. So this discussion aims to: * Unpack the stereotypes and misconceptions that fuel stigma around mental health. * Share personal stories (if comfortable) to break down the isolation many face. * Explore the impact of stigma on individuals, families, and communities. Here are some questions to get us started: * Have you ever experienced stigma related to mental health, either personally or witnessing it towards others? * What are some of the biggest stereotypes you've encountered? * How can we create a more supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable talking about mental health? Let’s get together and create a shift to promote better mental health and well-being.
