Sex and desperation for it in the depths of depression

...See more I am making this as a public place I can point at and say "yeah, I've thought about this topic, and here's what I think." First: this is only in the frame of MDD, not in terms of teen hormone soups or anything like that, but specifically how depression can effect sex drive. Second, this is natural. Sex feels good, releases endorphins, serotonin, and generally increases mood. However, especially in depressed individuals, this is an extremely temporary fix. Let me explain. What a desperation for sex is really, at its core is loneliness, in most cases. We wish for sex because we wish to be so close to someone that they are willing, and would love to engage in life's most intimate act. This is the type of person who would listen, understand, and love you. Especially with the advent of easily accessible adult films, sex is seen more as a commodity than a relational, human to human act. I don't have any sources for this and I wish I did, but this is what I think wanting sex is at its core. In Maslows Heirarchy of Needs, reproduction is at the base, so obviously a lack of it might cause stress, but more importantly is the lack of human connection, of what we call love, that is truly lacking. But because humans are so programmed by biology to love sex, we can blame this feeling of loneliness on simply a lack of sex, something a sex worker could solve. But I think it's much deeper than that. Let me know if you think differently!
