Tendency to Obsess over Love and Relationships
Relationship Stress / by Ashen241

...See more For my whole life, ever since I was a little kid, I have a very strong tendency to obsess over love and, specifically, people. I fall in love very quickly and easily and soon I obsess over that person. Recently, I got out of a relationship and I told myself I was going to work on myself and be single for a while and not focus on other people. I was doing fine for a couple months until an old friend reconnected with me, expressed her feelings toward me, and then-- boom-- the crush began. I think about her constantly, and I don't want to do that because I don't even know if we're compatible with each other, and if we end up not working out, I don't want to be heartbroken. Because of my obsession with people and with love in general, I tend to develop some very unhealthy and even toxic habits (a big one being jealousy and imagining situations to be worse than they actually are). I want to stop thinking this way and doing this to myself. Given that this is the way I've thought for literally my whole life, it is going to be exceedingly difficult to teach myself otherwise, but I really need to. I want to be able to focus on my own health, my own happiness, my own goals. I want to stop obsessing over people and love and view them in normal, healthy ways. Does anyone have any advice, tips, tricks? Ways to distract myself from thinking about this person and redirect it to something healthier? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much!
