Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Wednesday 14th June 2017
Trauma Support / by AutumnLeigh
Last post
June 16th, 2017
...See more Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening Everyone! This is my first shot at a daily check-in for Trauma and I hope I don't fall SPLAT on my face. All fun aside, how often does a fear keep you from trying? You want to (or maybe have to) try something new but afraid the world will see you slip and fall? Or maybe a part of you wants to try again for healthy relationships, social lives, recreation but the last time was traumatic for you and the bigger part of yourself holds you back from trying again? After a traumatic experience, even a cat will avoid the same situation. As much more complex humans, we often isolate or shield ourselves from the world. It's difficult to trust or 'jump in' to a healthy lifestyle. But we can heal and learn, step by baby step, to try again. So how is your day going? Are you ready to try something different- even if it's just one small leap into a bean bag? We're here for you! COMPLEX POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (CPTSD)
Trauma Support / by AutumnLeigh
Last post

...See more **This space is for Survivors of CPTSD. This is a safe space for Survivors to share with one another and seek support in a supportive and respectful environment.** Many traumatic events (e.g., car accidents, natural disasters, etc.) are of time-limited duration. However, in some cases Survivors experience multiple traumas, that continue or is repeated over many months or years at a time. The current PTSD diagnosis does not fully capture the severe psychological harm that occurs with prolonged, repeated trauma. People who experience chronic trauma often report additional symptoms alongside formal PTSD symptoms, such as changes in their self-concept and the way they adapt to stressful events. Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) differs from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in that a traumatic event occurs multiple times over an extended period of time. Examples of CPTSD include: *Concentration camps *Prisoner of War camps *Prostitution brothels *Long-term domestic violence *Long-term child physical abuse *Long-term child sexual abuse *Organized child exploitation rings * Abduction/Kidnapping (including parental) * Any form of neglect/abuse while in a situation where escape is not possible An individual who experienced a prolonged period (months to years) of chronic victimization and complete control by another/others may also experience the following difficulties: Emotional Regulation. May include persistent sadness, suicidal thoughts, explosive anger, or inhibited anger. Consciousness. Includes forgetting traumatic events, reliving traumatic events, or having episodes in which one feels detached from one's mental processes or body (dissociation). Self-Perception. May include helplessness, shame, guilt, stigma, and a sense of being completely different from other human beings. Distorted Perceptions of the Perpetrator. Examples include attributing total power to the perpetrator, becoming preoccupied with the relationship to the perpetrator, or preoccupied with revenge. Relations with Others. Examples include isolation, distrust, or a repeated search for a rescuer. One's System of Meanings. May include a loss of sustaining faith or a sense of hopelessness and despair. CPTSD Survivors are often diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), DDNOS, and other dissociative disorders. Because people who experience chronic trauma often have additional symptoms not included in the PTSD diagnosis, clinicians may misdiagnose PTSD or only diagnose a personality disorder consistent with some symptoms, such as Borderline or Dependent Personality Disorder. Chronic trauma survivors may experience any of the following difficulties: Survivors may avoid thinking and talking about trauma-related topics because the feelings associated with the trauma are often overwhelming. Survivors may use alcohol or other substances as a way to avoid and numb feelings and thoughts related to the trauma. Survivors may engage in self-mutilation and other forms of self-harm. Survivors who have been abused repeatedly are vulnerable to further exploitation and abuse, and can be unfairly blamed for the symptoms they experience as a result of victimization. At 7cups, we are empathetic to your past experiences and your feelings as a CPTSD Survivor. Please use this space to share your CPTSD stories, feelings and support for others. (Please avoid being graphic or triggering.) WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! edited by dancingRainbow45 06/04/2017 Additional information added
CONTINUING TO STAY SAFE ON 7 CUPS

...See more Before going further, please look at this wonderfully helpful link: https://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/CommunityGuidelinesandProtocol_446/stayingsafeon7cups_55652/ [https://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/CommunityGuidelinesandProtocol_446/stayingsafeon7cups_55652/] Some Members feel disheartened by the reporting process as they feel 'nothing' is being done. Please know that isn't true! Reviewing your Listener is the most productive way to help us improve our skills. We offer 'coaching moments' when needed based on your reviews. If your review or report is about harassment of any kind, however, those actions result in drastic measures to a Listener such as suspension or even a permanent ban. Those who review reports need to be sure they are making the appropriate call. If there is a claim without proof, sometimes it takes multiple complaints for them to know how serious the situation is. SO WHAT CAN I DO TO GET ACTION? If you find yourself in a harassing/sexually harrassing situation, please be ready to back up your claim for the most effective action. The minute you feel uncomfortable with the chat or are asked to do anything not authorized by 7 Cups conduct code, screenshot or copy the messages. Examples of this include requests for phone numbers, offline chats or social media information and inappropriate messages within the chat. You can then block the Listener and paste the screenshot/chat copy into 'Reason for Blocking'. If the Listener blocks you, please email community@7cups.com [http://7cups.com] with the Listener name and your screenshots or copies. If you fear that taking action may result in further harassment, please contact a Mentor for information and further help. Please know that 7 Cups strives to keep a safe and supportive environment for both Members and Listeners. We hear your voice! Please trust your instincts and empower yourself and others by reviewing/reporting the few 'bad eggs' here with the evidence. **I'm open to other suggestions or corrections**

...See more Understanding all illnesses and disabilities is a challenge. Because Multiple Sclerosis is one where it's next to impossible to find another sufferer with the same symptoms, I wanted to create a page where those with MS can share their top ten worst. Here are mine: 10. Sudden 'Charley Horse' or extremely painful muscle spasms 9. Feelings of a bug or spider (eww) crawling on me when there isn't one 8. Weakness in arms and legs 7. Bouts of full body feeling 'fuzzy' 6. Needing more sleep than other people 5. 'Hearing' my eyes move in my head 4. Becoming disoriented 3. Associated other illnesses 2. Not being able to stand still or walk easily outdoors or in busy public places 1. Stigma!!! (You look ok, so you must not be ill) Do you have MS? Please share your top 10!! Have a question about this disease? Please visit http://www.7cups.com/forum/DisabilitiesSupportCommunity_47/MultipleSclerosis_152/AMAMultipleSclerosis_23704/ THANKS!
7 Cups 'Unsung Hero' Shout-Out Appreciation Challenge
Positivity & Gratitude / by AutumnLeigh
Last post
April 7th, 2018
...See more Hello all of you Awesome Listeners! Aside from all the great work you do here, I am presenting a challenge beginning Sunday, July 3rd through Saturday, July 9th for all of us to give a HUGE Shout-Out to our UNSUNG HEROES! Who is an 'Unsung Hero?' Glad you asked! We often send Shout-Outs to our Listeners who are part of many projects and are well known in the Community. However, the foundation stone Listeners of 7 Cups are our 'B' track people who are jaw-dropping amazing and have awesome numbers here because their concentration is on Listening and/or Supporting and doing it well. Who qualifies as an Unsung Hero? A Listener who has reached high goals here with astounding amounts of chats in 1 on 1 and/or groups. Someone you won't normally see in our Shout-Out arenas. Someone who derserves great praise for uplifting 7 Cups to great respect while staying in the background. These are people you won't generally find in any leadership program or team. How do we find Unsung Heroes? It can be a challenge, so I challenge everyone to be looking up profiles in chat rooms, 1 on 1's, browsing Listeners or by simply knowing a Listener with whom we could have not gotten to where we are now without! As this challenge coincides with 7 Cups 3rd birthday, I'd love to see 3 Shout-Outs per post. **Please post your Shout-Outs with the Listener's name, and list the credentials from their profile that make them an integral part of 7 Cups** "We are thousands who march to fight darkness and depression; support illness, anxiety, fear and rejection. We mark forums with praise, for those who make us proud. But buried in thousands, some are lost in the crowd. Silent heroes who shine with a healing word; tirelessly working so all can be heard. Hail we here these great profiles where rare badges are hung; and shout Hooray! and Thank You! to those yet unsung." *A possible badge for this challenge is being discussed but not yet in the works. Suggestions welcome.* HAPPY HERO HUNTING TO ALL!

Thank you for helping me
I wish there words to describe how supportive and kind leigh has been to me. she has been there when things get tough, and durring the lighter times. she has taught me the true meaning of strength and has demonstrated a clear and unconditional concern and care for me. She is the best.
AutumnLeigh is the kindest, nicest person I have come across in a long time. She made me feel safe when I felt so very unsafe. She let me just be with her and checkin every so often and this helped me feel less alone with the nightmares in my head. She is protective in a way that is comforting and not controlling - I feel very lucky to have got to know Autumn - thanks Autumn for everything it meant the world to me ❤😺
love her, a great listener
Just a truly inspirational and selfless listener. Someone who gives you a big hug with her words, and who you want to hug back in return.

Autumn was very helpful, supportive, and empathetic. She understood some problems I was going through and responded very lovingly. During our chat session we just chatted for awhile and she gave me some ideas. I really enjoyed talking to her and will definitely talk to her again.
Autumn is a great listener and easy to talk to. She has really helped me grow into wanting to become a listener and being a mentor for me. Autumn is very skilled, professional, personable, and knows a lot about 7 cups.

Autumn is a great listener. She is always supportive, professional, courteous, helpful, respectful, and just wonderful. I really admire everything she does here at 7 cups. She is the type of listener and moderator that I look up to in many many ways.
Amazing listener, always professional and respectful.
Autumn is an amazing listener. She is always there for me and I love talking to her. I feel that I can open up about anything to her. She is non-judgmental, inspiring, positive, and I always feel good after talking to her. She is always professional and never leaves her professional persona although she is personable. I know that Autumn is dedicated to each member and guest of 7 Cups of Tea.
Autumn is very helpful, professional, insightful, and everything you would want in a listener. I had specific questions about 7 cups and she walked me through everything. Autumn also went the additional mile helping me find some information I desperately needed. She is always there for members. I highly recommend talking to her.
Autumn is absolutely wonderful. She is the big sister you always wanted but never had or the little sister you always wanted but never had. I was in such a good mood tonight and Autumn was so supportive. Words cannot express how good she made me feel. I was actually able to share something with Autumn that only a handful of people know about me and Autumn did not judge me, change her attitude, or anything. It was as if I didn't even mention it which was exactly what I needed. As odd as this may sound, I am on the verge of tears of feeling so accepted by Autumn. In fact, I am going to take a few moments and write about my feelings. Autumn, is changing my life one conversation at a time. I will continue making positive changes and I know Autumn will be there for me. Tonight Autumn showed me that I am courageous, strong, fearless, and wise, and that I make a difference at 7 cups. I can honestly say I love who I am in the present and who I am becoming. Autumn helped show me who I truly was all this time. I am so much more than I ever gave myself credit for before talking to Autumn.
YOU THE BEST :)
She was nice to me
Awsome listener
Lotta fun.
I can not believe how long we had talked! It was like catching up with an old friend. She responded very quickly. We went through all my little problems and all my big ones. She gave me insight and made me see the value in somethings. This listener made me laugh a lot. I believe laughing is a natural way to feel good! I will be coming back to talk to this listener again and again! Thank you so much!
Very easy to connect with, caring about my needs and troubles, understanding of the importance of regular connection
Thank You Autumn for being a wonderful listener. You are truly someone who stands by my side and helped me when I needed the most. I wish I could return the favour, but I don't know how. Please accept my most deep and sincere gratitude. Thanks a LOT, once again :)
She is a fantastic responder to the appropriate needs of the individual. Her professional approach has made me work for answers rather than her supplying them. I would define her actions as true help.
Understood my problems and provided the best solutions.
