Difficult childhood

...See more Hi, I'm 50 now and I've been struggling with clinical depression for a last few years. No therapy and pill really helped... I've talked to my GP the other day and she asked me about my childhood and I said I had a difficult childhood and really don't have nice memories of that period of my time. She told me that I would have to talk about it with some psychiatrist. And she's not the one who told me this. I wanna ask you how important it is to go through that, because I honestly don't wanna do it. It's painful for me, I'm gonna feel even worse reliving bad situations in my childhood and I honestly don't know how all that could help me as past is in the past. There's nothing I can do about that anyway. I can do about now and the future. So my question is... Is it really important to go through this misery to feel better or it's possible it won't do any good for me anyway? Please, be kind with your answers as I really feel low for days and feel like there's no more help for me for the rest of my life. Thanks.
