Future Teacher Freak Out

...See more I am about to start my last semester of college before I graduate as a certified teacher. I am student teaching in an amazing school with a great teacher who has tons of experience and knowledge and, on the surface, everything should be great. I am freaking out though. My college journey started at 17 and I'm less than 2 weeks from turning 26 now. I have struggled with my anxiety and depression over my college career and had to learn how to balance being a successful independent adult and a successful student (and fulfill family demands). I have failed classes and had to retake. I have failed entire semesters and took a break to regroup to try again after a semester break. Anyways, I feel confident in my calling and passion to be a teacher. I know i have the knowledge and skills to work with the kids. Its adult interactions that I'm terrified of. I have never connected well with people close to my same age. I always like people way younger or way older. As a teacher though I'll have to work with people about my age. I am so awkward and seem to be unaware of a lot of boundaries until the second after I cross them. I have to be able to be professional but I also have to keep chill to connect with the kids. I have no idea how to do that and I'm so scared I will graduate only to never be able to find a job (or keep a job) because I'm so awkward!

Need to learn how to "Chill"

...See more Hang on tight for a long post guys! I am (almost) 26, I started my college journey at 17. I took so long on my journey because I struggle (a lot) with a generalized anxiety disorder. It used to be much worse but I have made HUGE progress on just how much my anxiety impacts my daily life over the past 7 years. That said...I am now at the point where I have student teaching and then I'm DONE. While going to college, I have had to work 56 hrs a week, take 9 credit each semester, and help a lot with my nieces and nephew. I have been HIGH STRUNG to say the least for like 8 years now. My father has early onset dementia and heart failure. My brother is in an unfortunate marriage and they cant afford to take care of the kids but also dont qualify for assistance. Anyways, so while I was meeting with my cooperating teacher (who will be student teaching with) she said I need to learn how to "chill" and I'll be fine in her classroom. Due to life circumstances and my GAD, I have to plan and prepare for everything (maybe even over plan and over prepare) Her comment made me realize I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CHILL! I can "relax" or "calm down" but I have been so strung out for so long idk how to be "chill".... I need help! I take daily meds and have done the counseling thing and practice mediation and mindfulness but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Or at least not enough. Please give suggestions!
