Caring for others - how can we do our best to support others?

...See more Good evening! Since completing the IDG path, I’ve found myself reflecting on the importance of how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. The Four Key ideas have stayed with me: appreciation, connectedness, humility, and empathy with compassion. Approaching people with appreciation and gratitude creates space for trust to grow. When people feel valued, genuine connection and collaboration become much easier. That sense of connectedness reminds us that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves. Whether it’s our community, our workplace, or humanity as a whole, recognising that we all play a part can encourage us to contribute in meaningful ways. Humility also plays an important role. When we let go of needing to be right or seeking approval from others, we become more open to listening, learning, and responding to what a situation truly needs. Alongside this, empathy and compassion allow us to understand another person’s perspective and inspire us to act with kindness when someone is struggling. None of these qualities require perfection they simply ask us to be present and intentional in how we show up each day. So, I leave you with two questions: What helps you feel most connected to something greater than yourself? When was the last time appreciation, humility, or compassion changed the outcome of a conversation or relationship?

Relationship with self and its importance

...See more Good evening! I have recently completed the IDG course, and felt compelled to write about our relationships to ourselves as a priority. As we spend a lot of time helping and supporting others, or sharing our experiences with listeners, it is important to understand ourselves first. Taking the time to reflect on who we are, what we value, and how we show up for ourselves can strengthen the way we connect with those around us. For example, being authentic and carrying yourself with integrity allows for honesty and sincerity, which, when harnessed correctly, allows for openness to learn and grow too. These qualities help us build trust within ourselves, encouraging confidence, self-awareness, and resilience in both our personal and professional lives. All of these components are incredibly important to our relationships with ourselves, so I ask you… When do you feel most authentically you? When was a time recently you were open to learning and grew from this experience? These questions are an opportunity to pause and reflect on our own journeys. I believe that self-reflection is an important part of personal growth, and by understanding ourselves better, we are better equipped to support and connect with others. I will share my responses below!
