...See more I have methyphobia, an irrational fear of alcohol. My girlfriend has been drinking lately for pretty much the first time since we’ve been together. I never thought this would be an issue, because she had never talked about drinking before, besides her knowledge of different kinds of liquor and whatnot. Her birthday party is in about a month, and she texted me that she will be drinking there, and if that means I don’t want to go anymore, than that’s fine. To me it seemed like she cared more about getting drunk than having me there. I told her this and she said that she just wants to drink and talk with her family and doesn’t want to have to limit herself because of my fear. While I understand this, it’s easy to feel like she just doesn’t care. The night before last night it was thanksgiving, and she texted me that she was drunk. I started crying and hyperventilating. She’s asked me what is so wrong with her getting drunk, but since its an irrational phobia I don’t have an answer. I started crying yesterday while we were on the phone, and I told her I was stressed for her birthday party. She told me once again that I don’t have to be there. I tried explaining that I will be nervous either way because she will be drinking either way. I don’t think she understood what I meant. I can’t get any sleep from my anxiety.
