Boundary Issues with Ex
Relationship Stress / by HappyHuman1992

...See more Let me sum this up the most brief way I can. I had a realization that the relationship with my ex looked like a sort of codependency. Also was a reflection of what I imagine the beginning of my parents relationship looked like. (Which did not end well) My ex had a tendency to enable me, which I am at fault for and take responsibility for my actions. I’ve actively tried to improve and heal but I was not in a good mental state. In hindsight I was actually spiraling out of control and the only stability was that relationship. Once I did well, our relationship no longer thrived, he likes to be needed and have control over everything. I do think he’s a good human but we just were not right for each other and learned some good lessons along the journey. NOW with the little bit of background back to the point. I officially moved out mid November, we had broke up sometime in October. I had some small surgeries in between so the meds make it a bit of a blur, but it is now April and I have since strengthened previous friendships and gained new ones. This new friend group who I ski with includes a happy mix of both women and men, one man in particular we have so much in common and are in the budding stages of a romantic relationship. I told him my story and he has so much empathy and patience with me and my hesitations....and well...my ex decided to force his friendship on all of them too. This created a extremely uncomfortable situation and I’m seeing how terrible I am at setting boundaries.
