Relationship Stress / by HappyNurse86

...See more Hey there.. I’m new and my first time making my own post. I see a lot of posts that relate to me and find them helpful to read. Needing to vent and see what others think. I have been in my current relationship 2.5 yrs. One year of that was deployment. Since he has come back, he is a changed man. This happened during Covid so he was isolated a lot and he now has depression and anxiety. He doesn’t talk as much, doesn’t want to take medications, but is seeing a therapist. We also started couples counseling. He also has had surgery and is not currently working, June will be 2 yrs since deployment. He is getting medically retired from the military. So many changes and they are really starting to affect us. So that’s a little back story. I feel as though I’ve been there for him through it all. But I feel as though we are just stuck and not moving forward. He doesn’t include me with family plans and his kids. I’ve stressed this to him multiple times that if he wants to eventually get married, there has to be more. He has stayed with me and my son since his surgery (4 months). So he is actively involved with my child. We do things together. But he keeps his life with his fam and kids so separate from me. I have met two of his kids. Once. He says I’m the only woman to ever meet his kids. I’m not sure if he doesn’t know how to navigate this type of relationship or what to do next. I’m tired of not progressing, and there is no telling when he will be medically released so until then he has a lot of free time and no real routine which I feel doesn’t help his depression and anxiety. I don’t want to walk away but I feel like we are two completely different people now. We grew apart, not closer. Before deployment and even during, it wasn’t this way. I’m going to give the couples therapy a shot and hope it helps. The lack of communication and understanding is tearing us apart. Maybe someone has a similar situation or experienced something similar.
