There's always something that can be done to improve our situation. We are more powerful than we think, we just forget it sometimes.

...See more Let me describe a situation - and tell me if it sounds familiar.  You are normally aware of your weak points and triggers, perhaps the times they occur generally too. The feelings they leave are icky, heavy, make you feel momentarily helpless, really unpleasant. No one would like to be in that place. You have thought thru them, worked thru them, and can now identify them. You have been thru the self talk that gets you out of it enough times to be really familiar with it. You have done intentional work to build a pathway to walk you out of the feeling you're under.  Yet in the moment, when the feeling hits - and it could be anything - anxiety, panic, inadequacy, etc - you're unable to access the work you've already done to put the feeling at ease. It's like the lights are off and you're scrambling around to find the switch at night. You'll eventually find it, things will ease - but not before you've spent some time and energy fighting your way out of it, going thru all the motions again.  You discover the same pathway you already had before. But in the moment, you didn't have access to it.  Is this relatable to you? If yes, what could be ways to have better access in the moment?

Same thing, Same person, different day - different reaction?

...See more You know I've noticed the same thing can get a different emotional output from me on different days.  Something that got me over the moon earlier, the same thing could repeat and I might just be meh on a different day. And vice versa. Forget about different people, this is a different reaction from the same person on a different day. Sometimes it's the other way around too. When I've had a bad streak, the smallest positive evidence can really energize me. But it can't be totally random. So how I feel about a certain thing, is often relative to how I've been feeling already before it happened. The new stimulus evokes a reaction from me depending upon what my prevailing state was. What does that tell me? I can be more in control of how I feel than otherwise. If I can slightly adjust my perspective, I can see the bigger picture. If I can extend my timeframe, while continuing to do the work, I can avoid being too annoyed by setbacks. Most importantly I can protect my energy and drive. I can make better decisions when I'm in that mode. We all know and recognize those phases when life feels upbeat and the mind feels light and clear. Things just feel possible. We are just capable of so much more when we are there. Id like to stay there as much as I can. I'm sure it's possible to improve the time spent there once we are conscious about it. I'm still going to lose perspective from time to time, I'm human. But I'd like to keep progressing here. A couple years ago I couldn't walk 2km. Now I can do 20 without a problem. I built capacity slowly and I will attempt the same here. I'm going to try and press forward with this more intentionally.

Energy

...See more I feel like energy multiplies. And you can either be the energy in the room, or absorb it's energy.  Lot of the rooms in the world have low energy. People jostling with their own issues and problems. Let's try and avoid absorbing that. It's normal if those environments get us down, but let's try and protect our cheer from it.  A nice word, a kind gesture, a polite inquiry - all these have the potential to change someone's energy and day, including our own.

Rough Edges
General Support / by HugsAndShrugs

...See more I've often found my capacity to be kind is directly related to the kindness I have received or experienced in the recent past. If I haven't felt cared for or looked after - it impacts my ability to do the same in the near term.  It got me thinking - how our experiences with someone, end up impacting us and our next experiences with someone else. The next person had nothing to do with what happened to us before. Yet they will be affected by what's already happened to us before. And I gauge that that's broadly true for most people.  If someone else broke our heart or hurt our feelings in the recent past, are we as open as we were before with the next one? Do we become more guarded and less open to protect ourselves in advance? Are we giving the next person a fair shot at what could be?  I feel like we all are shaped by our experiences. Some of them give us rough edges. It'll be nice to not let these edges cut the next person for no fault of theirs.
