Bio

My name is Monica Brown, and I am an international
development professional with more than 25 years of experience working in
public health, human rights, community development, and capacity building
across Jamaica, the Caribbean, and internationally. Throughout my career, I have
worked closely with vulnerable and underserved populations, supporting
programmes that improve health outcomes, strengthen communities, promote
equity, and enhance access to critical services.

My volunteer experience includes serving at a hospice
supporting individuals facing serious illness and end-of-life challenges. This
experience reinforced the importance of empathy, compassion, and being fully
present for people during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. In
both my professional and volunteer roles, I have had the privilege of working
with individuals facing a wide range of personal, health, and social
challenges, which has strengthened my ability to listen with understanding and without
judgment.

I have received training in motivational interviewing
and am a trained Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
(IIN). This training has enhanced my skills in active listening, effective
communication, building trust, and supporting individuals as they navigate
challenges, identify strengths, and work toward positive change.

I am interested in volunteering with a suicide support
helpline because I believe that compassionate listening and human connection
can make a meaningful difference for someone experiencing emotional distress or
crisis. I would like to use my professional experience, volunteer background,
and coaching skills to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for
individuals who may need someone to talk to. I am committed to continuing my
learning in crisis intervention and suicide prevention while contributing to an
organization that provides essential support and hope to those in need.
