Because I want to understand people's behavior, the reasons behind their actions, their thoughts and feelings, I'm interested in studying psychology. I'm constantly curious about the reasons behind people's relationships and decisions. I believe psychology is the ideal field for me since I want to learn more about the human mind critically and sympathetically.

My work as a volunteer at Chosen Futures, where I teach English to struggling primary school students in Colombia every Sunday, allowed me to observe the impact of a social and emotional environment on children's development as well as the value of support at difficult moments. I’m also working on a research paper on why individuals stay in abusive relationships, based on the psychological and behavioral processes that also tend to go unnoticed otherwise. Additionally, participate in my school psychology club, where we discuss psychological problems, organize guest speaker talks, and work on projects related to mental health awareness for my school. I've also taken the AP Psychology course, which gave me the basic ideas of psychology and theoretical explanations for human behaviors.

...See more Perseverance means continuing to move forward even when things feel overwhelming or impossible. It’s not about having all the answers or being perfect; it’s about making the decision to keep trying, even when it’s uncomfortable, confusing, or tiring. Everyone faces moments where giving up seems easier than pushing through. Whether it’s struggling with school, friendships, mental health, or goals that feel out of reach, perseverance is the skill that helps us stay grounded and keep going. It’s the quiet strength behind making that extra effort, asking for support, or simply getting out of bed and trying over and over again. Perseverance isn’t always about big wins; it can be as simple as showing up, staying committed to a process, or taking small steps even when progress feels invisible. Over time, those small efforts can lead to meaningful growth. It teaches things like resilience, patience, and the ability to face challenges without losing hope. Sometimes, it’s easy to mistake perseverance for pushing through without feeling. But real perseverance includes acknowledging how hard something is, and choosing to keep going anyway, with kindness toward yourself. Reflection questions: * Can you think of a time when continuing to show up made a difference in your life, even in a small way? * What helps you stay motivated when you feel like giving up?

...See more One of the most potent but often misunderstood interpersonal skills in the Relating competence area of the Inner Development Goals (IDG) is empathy. Most people confuse sympathy with empathy, yet the two are actually quite different from one another. Sympathy is a feeling for someone, standing outside their experience. Empathy is feeling with someone, stepping into their space, and understanding what they're experiencing. Empathy exists in two main dimensions: Cognitive empathy or the capacity to understand another person's thoughts or feelings intellectually. Affective empathy, or the emotional capacity to feel what another person feels. In the world of nowadays, empathy is not only useful in relationships but also in things like and conflict resolution. It creates trust, reduces misunderstandings, and builds respectful, inclusive spaces and relationships. It helps us to listen carefully and respond thoughtfully, not judgmentally. Empathy also allows us to see the humanity in others, particularly where we have different perspectives. Empathy bridges cultural, ideological, and experiential gaps. Even though some are born empathetic, empathy is a skill that can be learned and mastered through listening actively, being open-minded, and continuously reflecting on oneself. Discussion Prompt: How has empathy helped you in your life? How may we more consciously practice and teach empathy in everyday situations?
