I will listen to you about anything that is causing you emotional troubles or distress and try help by exploring your feelings and emotions, with an empathetic and friendly ear. I'm non-judgemental, so please feel free to broach any subject. I understand certain things can be very difficult to talk about and you can be as open and honest with me as you like. I take confidentiality very seriously: what is discussed between us, stays between us.

I live in the UK, but you may find me online at unusual hours.

My radio interview on World Suicide Prevention Day

...See more A couple of weeks ago, I was called up by my local BBC radio station to discuss World Suicide Prevention Day and Samaritans, the UK's emotional support/suicide helpline. I've tried to cut out any identifying elements, but if there's anyone from the UK, you'll no doubt at least recognise the region I'm from! Apologies if I sound slow or nervous, I wasn't briefed about what would be asked/didn't speak to the presenter apart from what you hear in the interview - it was quite short notice. Just to let you know, the start of the interview begins with a pre-recorded segment of one of our volunteers describing previous suicidal thoughts I hope this link [https://instaud.io/private/36081dbfe283089c7a1ae73314a438adc9ae77f7] works! @Laura By the way, I cut out the number for Samaritans because I gave my local branch's number. If there's anyone from the UK or if anyone encounters any suicidal members from the UK, Samaritans has just (22nd) released its free call service, from landlines and mobiles: 116 123.
While Researching Samaritans

...See more Samaritans is a listening service based in the UK. Its aim and purpose is to reduce deaths by suicide, although people can phone up and discuss what's on their mind - in fact, only around 1/5 calls are from people who feel suicidal, although we receive extensive training in how to handle any and every sort of call. Before I began volunteering with them, I was researching listening services, and came across 7 Cups. 7 Cups and Samaritans share similar values in the sense that listeners cannot give advice, chats are confidential, etc. I find it a privilege to be involved in both.

Really good to talk to, very receptive with their responses to the topics as they came up, and had a good head on their shoulders.

very good to talk to, seemed to show an interest and a willingness to help and offered good advice that i will use, recommended
Spencer was so awesome! I could tell he was really reading what I was saying based on the relevance and impact his response had on me. I would very much recommend Spencer to others. He helped me realize things through the questions he asked because I had to ask them to myself before responding. Overall, 11 out of 10 for Spencer. Thank you for listening!
My first time here and he was an amazing help... I will definitely come back for more when I need it. Thank you Spencer!!
AMAZINGLY kind and understanding and helpful and calming! 5 out of 5!
