Optimism

...See more Optimism isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's not forcing a smile even when your dying inside. I believe true optimism is deeper, it's the belief that, even if today is hard, tomorrow still holds the chance to be better. It's choosing to keep searing for light, even when you feel like there is nothing but dark. Optimism is our ability to choose hope again after being disappointed.  To try to love again after being hurt.  To keep trying even after you fail because some small part of you believes things can be different. And if you're reading this, I believe that part of you is within you!  Optimism is a practice that takes time to get right. It's not about ignoring your situation but holding space for the idea that better can exist. It's saying "even if things aren't perfect, I can still grow here." When you practice optimism, you give yourself permission to move forward. You stop being defined by your past start being defined by your potential. The cool thing about optimism? It can be influential. Your belief that things can get better can help someone else find that within themselves. Optimism can be a form of   Your belief in the future can help someone else find strength in theirs. Sometimes optimism is the quietest form of leadership—showing people what’s still possible by simply refusing to let go of your own hope. Heres some questions to reflect on:  -When is the last time you chose optimism, even when it was hard to?  -What would it look like if you brought more optimism into your life? I look forward to seeing your answers and comments on this post. :)

Courage

...See more For this post, I want to reflect on courage. Courage isn't always a big action. Courage isn't always loud. Sometimes, it is deciding to get up in the morning despite wanting to just stay in bed all day. Other times, it is choosing to be honest with yourself about something painful. I think we often imagine courage to be a big action like speaking in front of a big crowd or making a big life altering change. But more times than not, courage is quieter, more personal acts. It hides in the in-between spaces of everyday life.  Courage is saying "I'm not okay" when everyone expects you to be strong Courage is walking away from something that no longer serves you.  Courage is showing up again and again, even when you heart feels heavy. We often don't recognize our own courage because we are too close to our own struggles. We downplay surviving tough days, staying warm in a cold world, and standing out ground when it would be easier to shrink. Yet, these are the most profound expressions of courage!  As you read this post, I encourage you to reflect on your little moment of courage you may not be seeing. Here's some questions to get you thinking.  * When was the last time you were courageous?  * Is there a part of your life where you are needing to be courageous right now?  Feel free to discuss your answers or any comments on my post below!  I leave you with a quote: "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." -Brené Brown
