...See more Pretty People in Porcelain Masks So many pretty porcelain faces All perfectly sculpted for pretentious pretenses Beauty is categorized and labeled For what can be known to the individual but not the society Gem eyes that skim the surface And silver tongues for spewing dazzling lies Each conversation is a dance An intricate waltz in between insensitive truths and around opinionated arguments Step left Avoid offending your dance partner Step right Hold your perfect porcelain smile Twirl Fake laugh at unfunny jokes Bow Part with polite and political posturing Find a new dance partner Knives are hidden behind backs Venom is held in closed mouths Lies are disguised and sold as truths Difference is a weakness Cracked masks are ugly Bare faces unthinkably hideous Judgements must be made in seconds Skim read personalities Swipe left or swipe right on friendships Rinse and repeat Excellence above all Everything must be exact Black camera eyes exist on every surface Nothing is secret, nothing is personal Hollowed out husks aren’t light enough One-inch waists aren’t thin enough Bulging muscles aren’t big enough Perfect porcelain masks aren’t beautiful enough For when everyone is beautiful, nobody is Standardized beauty becomes boring and drab Behind each perfect porcelain mask is a person Whose tired eyes And world-weary mind Yearns to be free Suppressed personalities and ambitions rage against porcelain prisons And sometimes they win Masks crack and fall away Revealing luscious colors and stunning imperfections Uniform personalities fade to quirks and captivating individualism Sculpted bodies change into varied masterpieces Laughs become thick and hearty and wonderfully different All imperfections accentuate exquisite features For beauty is often not born of perfection But rather an amalgamation of imperfections in just the right way
