...See more I recently came forward to my immediate and extended family about what my cousin did when I was younger. I was playing dolls with my cousin, sitting on a bed, and my other cousin walked in and jumped on top of me, rubbing against me. I screamed and tried to push him off but he wouldn't stop until he wanted to. He then grabbed a stuffed animal and did the same to it, saying "Look what I did to [me]!" I told my family members I didn't care if they believed me, but I wanted them to teach the men in our family boundaries and respect. Surprisingly, most of my family agreed. My aunt did not. She went so far as to say I was basically accusing my cousin of being a rapist. WHAT?! She discredited my account, claiming that I "stopped playing dolls with my cousin when I was 7." So we were typically unsupervised, but you remember that I specifically stopped doing that at 7 years old?! She then started talking about how her own mom was gang raped many times throughout her life. This bothered me for several reasons. I can't imagine what her mom has been through, but 1. I REALLY feel like that was mentioned to try and minimize what I was saying and 2. That was NOT her place to share that! It was just.. my aunt is infuriating. The kicker here...my OTHER cousin (not assaulter or one I played dolls with) has married a guy with a felony record. He has a felony for recording women changing at his house. My aunt is apparently chill with this. I am sick of my family willfully perpetuating these cycles! My uncle (not married to this aunt but) was caught doing the same thing! But everyone wants to sweep this stuff under the rug & just forget about it. I hate it.
